Im lucky enough to have lots of bikes.
Im fed up of carbon, dont get me wrong its got its merits I use it for racing as the weight/stiffness means it the best bang for buck.
Rather, my Sunday best road bike. Im more inclined to go for a nice steel frame. I have a steel SS roadbike for commuting and my only MTB is steel I like them both, more than plastic.
The thing is I can buy an 853 MTB frame from a well known brand for £500 yet Id need to more than double that for an equivalent road frame. I feel slightly fleeced shelling out more than one thousand earth pounds for a steel road frame.
Know exactly where you are coming from, have a look at the 2014 Genesis's as they are doing some 953's which is supposed to be super to ride. Fancy their Fugio as it's about the only affordable 853 cross, love the look of the shands but don't have pockets that deep 🙁
Aye, Ive been keeping an eye on the Genesis stuff although I doubt they'll offer a frame only option on 853 for a while. The 953 will be exorbitantly affordable for the likes of me.
Im only after a frame though. Where were the Volare's advertised for sale?
Still fancy a dead light and stiff carbon frame but can't really justify it at the moment.
I think the Volare 853 frames are available as a frame only. The 631 is a bit over a grand with an alrite build apparently.
Whereabouts?
I ride a lovely 98 kona Kapu 853 frame with modern bits and i absolutely love it. I love looking at bikes, but for whatever reason steel bikes are just better to look at. And boy does mine ride nice too
They arent available yet I guess.
Steel fixed wheel for commuting. Steel mountain bike. Titanium Sunday best bike was replaced with a pro-level carbon bike and an aluminum race bike. I don't miss it. But I do enjoy the ride and look of my steel commuter.
Steel road frames are now niche and Taiwan hasn't caught up yet. When they do the price for 853 will fall.

I like the look of the Fugio and the CDF931. I could be tempted as I like steel... I still like the ride of my old Lemond 853.
I have an 853 and 653 Dave Yates. The 853 is possible the nicest bike to ride of any of the bikes I own (including 2 carbon bikes) and have owned. Although I guess that some of that is due to the build /geometry.
