Hi guys, I'm driving to the Alps on Friday and want to temporarily insure a friend (comprehensive) on my van so he can help me drive through the UK and France. My insurance company (HIC) wont touch it. Anyone had any experience they can help me out with? Time's getting tight! Thanks dudes.

You insure the car not the driver - if you can't put him on your policy then it's a no go.
TBF Herts are one of the better ones for at risk drivers which I assume your friend is so you'll likely be solo, changing insurers would cost a fortune likely. Ive definitely had young drivers on my Herts policy years ago to drive through France all be it car not van.

If they're comprehensively insured find out if their insurance will cover them in Europe but I think most if not all insurers limit this cover to uk only, and even if so then you would only get 3rd party cover.

I'm leaving this weekend too, driving solo it's not too bad. Your pal can still keep you awake.

Can you add him for the reaminder of the policy? Why did they say no - is it the driver?
