I am looking to replace my Heckler in the near future and am still a bit unsure what to replace it with.
I saw a Remedy this weekend and I like it a lot. What are your opinions on them? They seem good value and well built etc. Are there any owners out there with any advice or input?
I hate hecklers and quite like remedys
but I'm not you
That is correct.
I had one. I thought the dcrv shock was horrible, professionally tuned or not. You can't get the pressure right. A pressure that offers small bump sensitivity and so traction will blow through the mid and end stroke and bottom on 2ft drops. A pressure that supports on drops and large technical obstacles will feel as harsh as a hardtail over the chatter and not offer traction on the braking bumps.
However if you can get one put together with a monarch plus rc3, it could be a beut of a bike, as the rest is reasonably standard.
For the naysayers; tell me all about the dcrv shocks being ridden by trek pro enduro riders. All of them. All none of them.
I have owned my remedy for about 18 months now and I love it.
decends really well and climbs efficiently i feel i have to agree with continuity tho the rear shock is difficult to get the pressure right, i keep meaning to try the air volume tuning kit from mojo because that will apparently stop it blowing through its travel on the bigger hits. But as a whole i love my remedy
I love my 2010 frame and don't have any issues with the rear shock blowing through the travel or being harsh. I have the standard DRCV RP2 on it, not sure if that makes any difference. The current frames are even nicer with a slightly slacker head angle and bolt through rear end. They aren't niche or bling enough for your average STW'er though.
Just set the shock up with gauge clip you get.I have owned 3 in the last six years 2012 is amazing even at 150/150 compared to the 09 160/160.Love it mine is set 25% rear shock. But then again i use it for big stuff.Great bike handles like a dream.Quite different the 12 is to the last 2 year ones.
I had the 2009 Remedy 9. A truly magnificent bike, now running a Rumblefish which is the only bike to come close to it
Robarnold so you think the Rumblefish is good bike! You hear alot of good things about them.
Im selling an 09 remedy if your interested.
dobiejessmo: yeah, I absolutely love mine. 120mm travel but feels more like 160 and climbs like a terrier. I bought mine then pimped it significantly. There are lighter, better climbing 29ers out there (I'd have a carbon Epic as well if I could afford it) but there are no bikes that are as much fun
Cheers Robarnold. will have to get a go on one.Was looking at getting the 130mm EX7 next year.Had a EX8 last year sold it.They do look good the Rumblefish.
Use mine day in day out with guiding work. Would agree on the shock comments to a point, it just takes a bit of fiddling and compromise but its not the end of the world. Sure there likely a better shock out there but there is no way its as harsh as a hard tail when set up for bigger stuff..
Things that I felt needed changing were the brakes, tires and stem. Just out of preference I wanted more powerful brakes and a short stem. The tires ripped open the first day. If you get a new one it'l be 10s so you'll probably end up 1x10 with a chain keeper. I put my SLX cranks on, which have to be filed down to take the 32t dynasis chainring.
The bonty rims are a PITA to set up tubeless. Get the rim strips and a CO2 canister or you'll be there all day.
Not a lot of people know you can adjust the geo by spinning a plate at the top of the seat stay.
Overall its a fantastic and confidence inspiring bike that looks sweet.
Remedy 7. DCRV rear shock but not DCRV fork.
I had an 09 Remedy 9. Brilliant bloody brilliant bike. Regret selling it. Buy one....but love my current bike though!
Have a 2012 Remedy 9 and love it. Wouldn't get the carbon version, weight difference not enough to spend the extra and components are top notch. It's very sure-footed, travel is immense and tbh unless you're throwing yourself off the top of a mountain it's more than enough bike for the UK.
I had a 09 Remedy 8 thought it was amazing. But the 12 has been tweeked a fair bit and i think is a better handling bike even though it is 10mm less travel.Better all rounder.
Remedy is a great bike but for sure has changed over the years, best thing as always would be try and see if it's for you... i'm on my 3rd frame so can testify to the value of Trek's warranty!
Started with a 2009/9 which with the Fox36 fork was fantastic, sadly a weld cracked and it was replaced with a 2010/8 frame; which came with the DRCV shock and i think slightly less rear travel 150mm vis 160mm? It was still a great bike but I don't reckon it was as good as the 09 frame, this frame has now been replaced by a 2011/9 frame which I have built up with all new kit including a Fox/Trek 32 DRCV fork, there is now nothing from my original bike on the current build, it's a different ride, the fork makes a big difference dropping the best part of 20mm A2C and it's taken me a while to get used to it.... It's still a great bike but the best bit is all my old parts went onto a C456 frame and thats a hoot to ride 🙂
1x10 with a chain keeper. I put my SLX cranks on, which have to be filed down to take the 32t dynasis chainring.
You should use a dedicated singlespeed front ring really, not one with shift ramps for a 1x10 setup, but ymmmv.
The DCRV is just a flat out marketing gimmick (as everyone has confirmed). The rest of the bike is as good a bike as you'd get from any other manufacturer; a bit good here, a bit bad there. The DCRV fork is to be stayed FAR away from. The suspension kinematics are fine though, so if you CAN get another shock on the back it transforms the bike.
I really wanted to replace my Heckler with a small Remedy but Trek refused to supply my LBS with a demo bike.
So I went with an Orange 5 instead.
