Our mountain bike group are going away for some riding based in Ballater.

A group of us are planning on getting the train up to Aberdeen and then riding up the Deeside way to join them, before riding back. We'll bookend it with stays each night in Aberdeen.

I think it's about 55 miles door to door, and it's a multi-use trail, so we should make decent time. We'll be on mountain bikes.

What else do we need to know please?

Deeside way or deeside trail. These are different

Deeside way is ridable in it's entirety. Deeside trail is not.

Deeside way has unavoidable road section on it which are for the most part fine although the section to aboyne can be bad.

It's well signposted though

I actually thought they meant this when I read the thread title...

https://bikepacking.com/routes/deeside-trail/

I've done it and while there were some brilliant bits I found there were quite a few bits I definitely wouldn't revisit.
