Seen a Plug on Pauls Cycles for £300, very tempted but would like some real world reviews please.

It'll do the job, but they're a bit boring. Quite porky as well apparently. Doubt you'll get much better for £300 new though.

I'm looking for a singlespeed to commute/pop around town on, my old Carrera subway could be adapted but it would still be a slow, heavy lump. Would rather something with bigger wheels.

Stovepipe fixed with heavy wheels, better than one of those crap foffa things though.

Why not build something up? Old 531 steel frame with semi horizontal dropouts, budget set of wheels and finishing kit and you're good to go. A lot more individual, probably a lot nicer riding and less likely to be stolen than something 'new' looking. LFGSS is good for parts, you could build something nice up for £300

I had one when I was down London way, bought it off ebay for £300, commuted for a year on it, changed the tyres and sold it for £250 🙂

Great SS commuters and bomb proof

Wheels are/were crap, cup and cone Formula hubs lasted around 12 months of work and back. Switched to Halo track hubs and been fine ever since.

It's a bit on the heavy side but no biggie for me, it's currently sat unused in the garage about to become my winter/shit weather bike. Certainly better than being sat in doors looking out the window...

I've got a plug freestyler, had it about 2.5 years now. The white chain it came with made a noise so I stuck a regular half link bmx chain on there and now it's perfect.
I run it fixed with a front brake.
Brilliant bike, never done a thing to it maintenance-wise to be honest, tough as old boots.
I guess if you're used to fly weight road bikes you may find it heavy, but I'm used to burly mountainbikes so this weighs nowt to me.
Awesome bike, you'll love it.
