I assume you just tighten them up as much as you can. What is to stop them coming loose?
Pretty sure my rear one loosened off a bit today.
Should I grease any of it?

Nowhere near as tight as a qr. I snapped a marzocchi one by slightly over tightening it. Just enough is all that's needed. Grease the threaded end.

Not sure about the rear but on the front there is and adjuster and the qr lever. You need to get the adjustment right before tightening the qr. Doing it wrong will mean its not tight enough or you put too much force on the wrong bit and break it so its worth learning the proper technique. Grease the sliding surface and take it out every now and then to wipe and regrease as they can and do seize

I just assumed if it's not a qr it's a maxle.
