Going there on Sun along with some fellow local bikers to talk to a landowner about the pros & cons (hopefully more pros) of creating sustainable bike trails within a local park/convince him it's do-able.
Not been before…worth taking the bike and having a blast there beforehand?
Your Meta may look slightly ott Rascal 😀
It's very xc, a good example of a bike trail working well for the land owner but certainly not to be used as an example of what you want to persuade this bloke to build.
Take the bike and have a blast, bur be prepared to pedal.
Hi Matt - you know the 'local park' I'm referring to then.
I'm going there regardless so might as well take the bike - use it as a recovery ride!
Its great fun in a flat, pedally, bermy kind of way. Not rocky or techy, but a great use of the terrain available. Café is good, but not cheap, parking charges OK.
Our kids (8 & 11)love it having had their first taste of "proper" MTB trails with the Glentress greens on holiday last summer. Finally got both of them cornering with the correct pedal position, both of them being fairly reluctant cyclists generally are a lot more confident having ridden it a few times. It is a superb introduction to trail centre riding given the local limitations there, and seems to have quite an active local group attached to it.
Mind you, we've not been since it started raining, so I'd be interested to hear what state it is in now!
My 4 year old loves it
It's a short fun non technical loop, more aimed at families and those new to the sport / looking to progress I would say but shows how a simple 'blue' (if it's even that) trail can work for a wide variety of people
Not been for over 12 months, must go back (I'm quite local, certain ally wouldn't drive too far to get there)
Oh and good luck Rascal
It's good fun for a few laps, quite pedaly and gravely (we used to use it for xc training). from how I see it it's not really what we want the certain woods/park that is being talked about turned into!
My 3 and 5 years old boys love a loop of the blue followed by a go on the playground and an ice cream. I'd say its really good for family rides, not too much uphill that the 3 year old can't do it and not too steep downhill that they are likely to go too fast and fall off. It's got enough bumps and berms that its interesting for the kids to ride. I wouldn't go there on my own to ride but would take the bike if I was going anyway.
I'd be interested to see if you could get some trails in the 'local park', if its where I think it might be then it would be the closest hills to me (I ride the road bike round that way but not the MTB).
Pretty wet round there at the moment, be prepared to come back soaked! They need to look into improving the drainage 🙂
