Got a 29er X-Cal, and I'm thinking of changing the frame out to a steel - Niner, Salsa, Cotic, etc.
Will the G2 fork that came as stock on the X-cal work on a 'non-G2' frame, or is there something about it that will screw up the geometry? Need to see what's in the budget or not.
G2 type fork offsets seem to be the way that people are generally going with 29ers anyway (on rigid forks, no real knowledge of sus ones)?
Might be worth asking Niner/Cotic what they think about it, though.
Don't those "G2" forks simply have more offset than what used to be thought of as normal - ie around 52mm compared to 38-ish?
Like wwaswas says, I think that's considered normal for a 29" wheel now.
You can have a slacker head angle but without ending up with excessive trail.
I run the fox G2 29er forks on my Niner MCR. Had them on there for a couple of years now and there fine. Theres only a few mm difference in the offset.
I have put some Reba RLTs (non G2)on there as my fox forks are at Mojo for a service, there is not much difference at all. The front end pops just a little bit easier and thats the only difference that I can tell.
I also have mates who are running G2 forks on none G2 frames (old gary fisher Rigs SS and a Niner SIR9) and they have no worries.
It works OK for me.
