You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
I have just acquired a s'hand EX8. First job is to inspect the pivots and replace any knackered bearings. Search the interwebs but can't find a guide on disassembling the rear end. Never mind, seems easy enough.
So I've happily taken it all apart but am stuck with the final bolt, the main pivot bolt, stuck in the frame. It seems to have bound very strongly to the inner race of the non-drive side bearing. Unscrewing it just results in it spinning and not coming out. Somewhat firm persuasion with a soft faced mallet hasn't helped either.
Can anyone tell me how this is supposed to come out? Am I right to assume that it should just be a push fit in and out?
Your help please before I break my new frame or some part of it.
Should just be a press fit, use a suitable sized drift and a proper hammer.
Find a steel bolt that's the same thread as the main pivot bolt. Then leather seven shades of shizzle out of it with a big chuffin ommer.
Thanks guys, I worked this one out for myself and can confirm that while coatesy's advice is accurate my experience was closer to Rorschach's description.
😉
Sounds about right, other than protecting pretty finishes, soft face hammers are usually for comedy effect only.
