You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
Do most of my riding on rooty singletrack on a hardtail. Getting a lot faster but can't carry much speed over logs crossing the track. Nothing huge, probably about 6-10 inches. I normally pull the front wheel up and then use my clips to hop the rear wheel over. It works but isn't the most graceful.
Any hints, tips, techniques?
How far off the ground, how much of a run up, what's the entry / exit like? All depends really, not one technique will work all round.
Just hop it?
BMX, but same idea.
to begin with unweight the front wheel to touch the top of the log. then push it away again and bring the knees up to unweight the rear
Lucien - varies. Normally on the ground. Sometimes I have five metres of run up an exit, sometimes they're on a corner. Normally on fairly flat ground.
Thanks Jedi, will give that a go.
I know people who purposefully clip the log with their front wheel to give it extra lift, whilst going for the hop, so it ends up kinda like a bunny hop. I don't do this!
Learning how the bike handles a chainring/log interface helps a lot. My SS has no bashring so I have to be a bit careful not to smash the chain into logs.
Start small. Keep your bars straight. Generally speaking, if you can get the front wheel over the back will follow. A little bit of speed will keep the momentum going. Hesitation and doubt WILL uck it up.
