Hi,
I have an issue with a fox dhx 5 air shock, which is on a 2006 specialized enduro frame that i bought to build up. The shock holds air fine, but the shrader valve that enables you to top up the air volume on the boost valve is missing, its been snapped off. Im pretty good with machinery, but Ive never stripped a shock before- what i want to know is how easy or hard it will be to replace this valve? Is it just a case of removing the shock from the bike, removing all the air from both chambers and then taking off the bottom-out adjuster with the allenkey grub screw and replacing the valve from within? if so, where is the best place to go to buy parts? Or am i better just to keep my eye open for a busted shock that i can use for spares?
I know some of you guys have a lot of technical experience, so any help or links to tech diagrams would be much appreciated. I would send this away to get it fixed and serviced, but I would prefer to keep costs down and to be honest I like taking on these jobs if theyre not too technical. If you think its something I shouldnt tackle, feel free to warn me off!!
Cheers, Simon.

I take it the remaining piece is well stuck in? I would have thought that a fox valve (around £7) would have been fairly easy to fit without a strip down but it's getting the old one out that's going to be tricky.

A pic would help but from what you've said, the Val e core must still be in place for it to hold air. remove the valve core and use an easy-out to remove the remains of the valve.

The 2006 Enduro didn't come with a boost valve. Something about it fouling the frame if you used the low BB shock mount I think - so it hasn't snapped off.

As above, spesh removed the boost valve, so you get a plastic plug. I believe that you can't DIY service these because they are charged with nitrogen (or at least that's what I was led to believe when I had issues the the DHX air on my SX Trail).

brilliant, that is why i come on this forum for advice, because if you wait a couple of hours someone (or in this case 3 people) invariably come up with the right answer and save you making a mess trying to fix something that isnt actually broken. This is the first full-sus bike ive ever had, so i went on youtube to find out how to set it up. obviously, all the dhx airs on the tutorials had the schrader valve on the boost valve, so i went looking for one and didnt find it. As you 3 have said, it has been removed and plugged with white plastic (i thought that might have been a home bodge!), and i can see why because as you say it would foul the frame on a big hit. Thankyou so much for your help folks, very much appreciated!!!! Ill go and fire a big dollop of air into the main chamber now and cheerily aim it down some big hills.
