new front mech on my new (to me) c456. Older lx shifters, new chain.

setting up the front mech with a 22 36 double and bash

set the height, check, toe in the limit screws, cable and go to shift and the front mech drags up from the granny past the middle ring... so much so I have tried both putting spacers between the granny and the little ring / slacken off the cable so the shifter only engages the mech half way through the movement.

Help... I have never had probs setting gears up before... fundamental basics.

its one of these:

Is the cable bolted into the mech in the correct place?

stu, think so, it is a duel pull mech, top route on the frame so straight into the bolt up, it wont pull if I go round the other way.

It has to go around the outside of the lug, and then under the bolt head if memory serves me right, if you take it to the inside of the bolt then your pull ratio will be wrong.

I'd check the way it's bolted up.
If you remove the bolt you'll see a groove where the cable should sit.

checked and double checked the cable, its in the right place. even checked the tech docs on the web.

the c456 has a 73mm BB shell, I am right in thinking you only need one 2.5mm spacer on the drive side.?.

I am out of ideas.

Yep 73mm = 1 spacer on the drive side.

Is the cable seated correctly in the shifter?

Is it a 10 speed crank? or a ten speed mech?
