Evening folks

Ive got some oem tubeless ready rims on a trek emonda from 2015.

I read somewhere you are supppsed to use some tubeless rim strips.

Is this the only way to run them tubeless or could I just use a narrow stans tape and tubeless valve?

Also do I just use stans or is there a road specific fluid I should be using?

Any advice much appreciated

If they are Bontrager rims (highly likely, as this is a Trek brand) then the proper rim strips are worth it, as they just work.
The Bontrager rims/strips/tyres are designed as a system that work together, so are more reliable than some arbitrary combination.
Having used these on my MTB, and being happy with them, led me to choosing them for my road ride build. The only issue is that (on the road bike) the tyres are VERY tight.

Thanks. I was planning on using schwalbe tyres.

I'm struggling to work out which rim strips I need, any chance you could link me the right ones please for their road rims?

Speak to your local trek dealer. There are several different rim strips depending upon the rim. Treks dealer portal will have the answers.

This. If they're anything like the MTB equivalent, the proper rim strips are fabulous.

Another vote for them here if you have Bontrager rims. No worry over tape lifting and it's easy to remove the strip to wash it of old sealant, no faffing with tissue around the rim etc. They work with any tyre in my experience, have used Bontrager, Maxxis and Conti tyres on mine with no issues whatsoever.

I had these on a wheel. They're very good once setup, but insanely hard to get the tyre on. In the end I just put some duck tape on and it was fine until the rim disintegrated from old age.

Tricky to be accurate on this one, as my rim strips came in the box with the wheels.
My best guess is Trek part number W514418.

P.S. If you have any success with Bontrager rims/strips & Schwalbe tyres, I'd be interested to hear your feedback

IME with road bikes you need to make sure you have 'tubeless ready' or 'tubeles easy' tyres because of the higher pressure. Schwalbe do a great and reasonably priced range, but makes sure they are tubeless easy as not every one of each model is! 🙂

To answer you question Stan's yellow tape and valve would definitely work, as would Gorilla tape and a valve cut out of an old inner tube (if it has a lock ring) but Bontrager strips are probably the easiest to install (you still need a pair of valves though).
