If you get a good run from Taunton you could get to minehead/hopcott in half an hour.

But in the 8yrs I lived in Taunton I rarely drove past the Q’s to get to it.

Don’t how good it is but Woodbury Common is only just over 30 mins from Taunton.

Probably more like 45-50 mins in normal traffic.
I'm in Ottery and work in Taunton, and it takes me 35 mins to get to work most days over the Blackdown hills. Woodbury is another 15 minutes from me.

Woodbury has some good riding though. Holds up well in the wet, and is never that busy.
But local knowledge is key as otherwoise you end up on boring, wide, tank tracks, and you need to know where the nice singletrack is.
Not much elevation either, so it's about keeping the flow (not much good if you have to stop every 200m to check your GPS)

Cove or Triscombe, agree with Ajantom about Woodbury

Cove has some great trails.

Why not the Quantocks? If its the step climbs then you will get those on Exmoor or the Blackdown Hills (south of the M5). Given the impending lock down your choices will be limited anyway.

Blacksdowns is ok for road riding but you’d have to be pretty desperate to not go to the quantocks to mtb the blackdowns instead.

Other riding spots are available Jam-Bo 😉

Minehead/Hopcott, Wider Exmoor or Cove are all not too far from you.

Blackdowns are a real slopfest at the moment and not many trails to link up. I ride up to Culmstock Beacon on a mix of roads and bridleways on the rigid. It is OK for a quick lunchtime ride from the house, but I wouldn't drive here to mtb.
