was at BPW today and both my little fingers were hurting by mid afternoon. thought about taping it to the ring finger to stabilise it....... anyone else done this before?
two finger braking?
Only tried it when riding with a broken pinkie, still hurt like ****.
You'll still be trying to use it even when taped, so unlikely to help much. Are you strangling the bars by any chance?
I'd look at the position of your brake levers (move them in, towards the bar) first and then concentrating on not holding on so tight.
did you clip any trees?
just 1 finger braking.... will look at moving the brakes closer. - thanks
phew, for a minute there I thought you might be a two finger braker!
I suspect taping your fingers together is just going to cause irritation and might cause you other problems. In typical STW logic, why not give it a go and see if it helps?
But in an attempt to be helpful; grip diameter? Perhaps a smaller diameter grip so you can... get a better grip.
Do you do much Bike Park/DH riding? Maybe you just need to build up some Popeye forearms and bulging hand muscles!
Pinkie knuckles don't align well with next finger. Taping not really going to help.
Also try rotating your brake levers so that when you are out of the saddle, there is a straight line running down your forearm, through your hands, onto your levers.
As above - lever position and grip size are the key. I've got little hands but much prefer slightly larger grip (use Lizard Skins on my normal bike but get painful fingers on my DH bike if I use them but don't have any problems with ODI Rogues).
I use some of the snake oil physio tape on my thumbs when doing a lot of DH (think Alps holidays etc).
For some reason I get really bad joint pain deep in my thumb sockets. The stabiliser support things work too, but they get in the way a bit too much. The tape is a bit more unobtrusive & they don't hurt when I use it.

Tell me more..............
My thumbs are taking a pasting on the Fatty due to the extra speed being carried into braking bumps and lack of suspension. On a bad day if I twist my thump outwards it feels like it's completely dislocated and I can't use a smartphone as the end of my thumb is about 15mm away (to the left) from where I think it is!

I used to run them like this, and it would make sense if you had no joints in your wrists, but the proper way is to have hands parallelish to the ground so you can use your wrists rather than transfer any hammering straight up your arms into your body. Helps a lot with balance and rollover too
bigger grips.
brake levers nearly flat.

by all means try this, if only to see how much it hurts.

bigger grips.
The vast majority of DHers run narrow grips, including myself. So really...... try thicker/thinner grips and see what works best (you might need to change the reach on your brake levers when doing this to get the best out of the setup)
The brakes lined up with arms is a pretty bad idea, given that you're in (or should be) an aggressive position they'll be pretty much straight down. Definitely not awesome if things start getting steeper on you!
