Hi, I've got chance of some great value second hand forks buy but they have a tapered steerer. Is there a headset that'll let them fit my Carrera Fury AM?

Thanks in advance

Will

Depends on what size of headtube / headset - Googling suggest replacement is:
FSA 11N headset which is an IS44 semi-integrated type - ie. you can fit an external lower headset cup cup for a tapered fork e.g Hope type H bottom cup. Worth checking with your bike shop as your frame may have different specification

Thanks for the assistance. These headset standards baffle me bit!

Yes the current headset is semi integrated for a 1 1/8 steerer so an external bottom cup would make sense.

Cheers

On some of the semi integrated frames theres not enough depth to fit the external cup into the frame.

Looking at the headtube, if it is tapered then a tapered fork will fit. If it is straight then it won't fit a tapered fork regardless of which headset you fit.

Andycs - not true. It may have a straight 44mm head tube in which case you can fit a tapered fork no problem. I have done exactly this on my bizango.

Agree, but not in this case. 2015 model fury shows standard headtube.

Looked at a 2015 fury in the local branch this week. It's definitely a 44mm headtube, same as my 2011 one.

The bottom cup recess seemed plenty deep to me when I popped a new headset in last year so an 1.5" external cup should fit fine. It'd probably slacken the head angle up slightly & raise the BB a fraction but I doubt it'd be noticeable.
