Can it be done? My pal is after some forks for his but 1 1/8th 29er forks with 15mm axel are ridiculously hard to find unless you want Suntour.

I have it in my head that running tapered forks is possible with the correct lower headset assembly?

Anyone know and if so direct him in the direction of the correct part? 😀

Boooooooo. 🙁

Everyone got so upset about 650b and missed the biggest killer of older frames. 😐

To be fair I had a pair of suntour forks on an old genesis and they were ok.

Yeah, I've heard they're not bad but he'd hoped to get some Reba's or the like second hand.

It's probably not worth bothering for the sake of an Inbred, but getting a new headtube fitted is a £100-ish job I believe.

Also, it must be possible to create a lower headset cup that would permit this, but it would alter the head-angle enormously. 🙂

You can buy a new CSU in 1.125 from Mojo for £120, thus allowing almost any 2014 Fox fork to be adapted.

I'm pretty sure that that's been done (Cane Creek?) but, as above, your front end is going to be a lot taller for a given travel. I also vaguely remember something tapers being not standardised (tapering down from 1.5 to 11/8 above the race) which could cause issues.

There's a video on YouTube (which I haven't watched) supposedly telling you have to do this.

Whether it's worth the hassle (a new frame might be easier) I don't know.

depends on the headtube ID

I was able to stick a 1.5 external lower cup on my 1 1/8th internal headset on my unit, added about 15mm to the front end and a wee bit slacker HA, 🙂

You can still buy reasonable quality brand new 29er straight steerer forks with 15 mm axles- x-fusion Slides are about £260
They still come up on Ebay etc. regularly, a mint set of Solo Air Rebas went for £180 last week just as I was about to buy them

Think my mate was after the mint Reba's as well 😆

Thanks all. He likes the frame and is short of cash so needs to be a cheapish solution. I will tell him to check out the X Fusion.
