You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
A vid of us at Glentress riding blue velvet, berm baby berm and essentials
I couldn't think of a tune to put with it - any thoughts?
A question on BBB - can you get round without pedalling? I imagine some of the corners might be a bit tight but I was wondering if your greater momentum helped.
If I had enough bottle not to brake perhaps 🙂 Only one of the big corners was an issue - but I did have trouble changing direction quickly enough. in the right left right flicky bits
Helmetcam on the stoker is cool, never seen that before. Video needs a pumpin' nu-metal soundtrack!
Can you effectively pump a tandem incidentally? Seems like it should be possible but need an awful lot of coordination... Or maybe it just works out with both riders doing their own thing?
I an only just pump a solo. I guess if you were good you could but that level of co ordination is beyond us
Aye, to be fair I can't even coordinate my own arms and legs very well never mind someone else's.
Well I thought it was good 🙂 So I shall bump it for the daytime crowd to laugh at
Nice vid Teej, rare footage of you wearing a protective headpiece as well 😉
Never having been to a trail park I must admit to being really suprised at how manicured the trails are.
Is it just hard packed soil or some kind of surfacing material ??
Completely artifical surface of gravel. Dug on site tho I think. A trench is dug into teh subsoils and a structured path laid. the only way to survive the high traffic
One new, one newish trail. they go thru a cycle over years of slowly eroding and getting rougher then get repaired
For sedate riding like that, the best music would be "The Blue Danube" 😉
A waltz would seem appropriate 🙂
In was thinking "Born to be Wild" myself 😉

I soundtracked a video with the Spellbound Concerto once, surprisingly effective.

Those are all particularily intensively surfaced trails- Glentress has its own quarry, but some of the older trails are made with locally dug material (borrow pits), some bits are "as dug" ie we cut down to the good soil and just leave it... but most has to be compacted hardcore- it's weatherproof and very durable. But can be a bit dull when it's new and a bit horrible when it's worn out.
Oooh that looks fun. Something I'm looking forward to in the summer is taking our tandem to a trail centre.
Will probably try Llandegla and see how it rides.
Try mounting the camera rear facing too.
Hello Jeremy and Julie,
My wife and I are trying to find a used tandem for us to do something very similar. We are planning to race trail quest events in borders area this year and also for some long distance forays into scottish mountains.
We'd be very interested to know what the bike is and where you got it. Also if you happen a spare in the garage thats for sale!
We took an mtb tandem out down at Keilder forrest and the hire man was shocked when he found out which trails we'd ridden when we got back! It'd never been any where other than lakeside!
Cheers Keith
Hi
Ours is a cannondale MT800 - but heavily modified. We run it with a 6" fork for most of the time and a 4" for touring with front panniers.
Few and far between I am afraid and an expensive game. Probably the cheapest tandem to offroad on is a dawes double edge - someone on here has one IIRC. For what you want to do you need a suspension fork - I prefer marzochi as you can get windwave to fit a steel steerer for added strength - we run a Z1 lite which has air preload. The dirt jumper series is used a lot.
so - you will need to scour the secondhand market for a bike and then upgrade it. Ours has probably cost more than £2000 mostly secondhand parts. occasionsally they come up on the tandemclub for sale board
Our spec - cannondale MT800
Marzocchi Z1 lite fork with reinforced steel steerer and extra preload
Hope big un hubs - 48 spoke front 36 rear ryno lite front rim 721 rear
Hope 6 pots on 203 / 185 discs
2x9 drivertain 36 / 2 with 11-34 cassette
Thudbuster rear seat post
feel free to email me - email in profile
http://www.mtbtandems.com/ ( american but a very good source of ideas and parts - their fandango bikes are good value)
rather inactive now but still some good info and ideas

i think it's very impressive riding those trails on a tandem.
Not that impressive - there are better than us out there
try these guys -
endorphinix - we have a Dawes Discovery (similar to the double edge).
We bought it off a nice chap from STW and we love it. Mainly ride in the drier months and mostly around the Peak District.
People are always amazed when we trundle by and realise 'Ooo it's a tandem'.
If I had a £1 for every time someone shouts "she's not pedalling you Know", we'd be able to afford a new set of wheels.
Edit : try putting up a wanted in the classified.
Which reminds me we must get out and try out a trail centre - should be a laugh.
I remember your tandem video with wee Mark in front on his Iron Horse
Cheers Bunnyhop.. I am used to that kind of reaction from passers by from having my son on the back of the tag along at trail centres. More often than not people have seen the exhausted look on my face and said " you taking your dad for a ride " to my son!
Keeping an eye out and put an add up,
cheers
p.s If anybody knows a couple of people who have a blue ventana that ride at glentress quite a lot with a red campervan could you direct them to this thread. I lost their details after a chance meeting.
Hi endorphinix, that'll be us you're looking for! How's things?
Email in profile if you want to get intouch.
Cheers,
Rob
The wonders of the interweb!
Cheers for the tip off Jeremy
After watching the video, I would probably choose this music to go with it.
