My neighbour has bought himself an older Dawes 26" wheel tandem with RS Judy forks on it. He wants to replace with rigid disc forks.
I have some very nice Singular Swift 29er forks with straight steerer which will suit his headtube and raise the front of his tandem a bit. However, he is concerned that he needs 'tandem' forks.
Likely much difference between the steel Singular forks and 'tandem' in terms of strength?
Thanks.
I ran 29" surly orge forks on the front of my 26" dawes tandem for a few years, with a 203mm rotor. If anything I think the rigid forks might be stronger than the Judys. Maybe drop sam @ Singular a line to see what he reckons, but I think you'll be fine

Yes - you need a very strong fork. Steel steerer IMO. I would not ride on marginal forks. with a big disc you put tremendous forces thru the fork. The zocchi zi lite I have ( modified witha steel reinforced steerer I can see bend 2 inches under braking
What TJ said.
They need to be seriously strong forks.
We probably reach 200kgs in all-up weight when bikepacking... when braking from over 80kph you need a fork that isn't going to fold on you!
You don’t want “nice” forks on a tandem you want stiff and strong as f***. Steel steerer essential, preferably a bolt through axle, most dirt
Jumping forks should be ok. I have Marzocchi DJ3s on mine, so much better than the noodly qr fork it came with.
I've a pair of rigid Dawes tandem forks you are welcome to have for postage, from a 2006 Dawes & are for either vee or disc braked. Pm me if interested.
