Under £400 something that can go off road ( tame trails, paths etc).

Guessing that's just a change in tyres tho.

Can't see the wanted section anymore

It will be the best bike purchase you make. How old is your daughter? Used Dawes would be your best bet. Tandem association on Facebook is worth a look.

Me and my 16 year old son have an old Gary Fisher Gemini tandem. First thing I would say it's certainly a lot harder (technically) than riding solo. Especially singletrack where the captain cleans an obstacle and starts pedalling only for the stoker to have crank strikes. Technical downhills are funny, neither of us small, and fully rigid with v brakes on an old steel frame that flexes it's basically out of control. Certainly need to be on your game but I actually quite like it. Possibly the best bit though is it cruises around 25mph on flat roads so the roadies have a double take as an old bloke and a kid on a mountain bike come flying past.

Excellent plan. We used to have two Thorn tandems, one to get each nipper to school. Bought them secondhand for about £500 apiece, sold them on a few years later once the kids had outgrown them for about the same money. Fun, free and speedy transport!

Awesome got cash waiting just need to find one. Seems to be a few dawes discoveries (alloy I think) and some older dawes double edge (steel - like the look of these)

Some cheap ones on https://www.preloved.co.uk/search?keyword=Tandem&sectionId=2172&sectionName=Cycling

In Bolton but will go 100miles...unless they are willing to send by courier

I have a really nice off-road tandem - viking. we added hydraulic disks. Me and my son used a few years ago that you could have for £300. We loved it, but he's too big now. S Lakes .

Worth a look at the Tandem Club for sale page. There's a decent looking Dawes for £400 that is only a little bit outside your distance limit...

+1 for the Dawes Discovery, ours is a 2006 model like the one up there on eBay, pretty sure it will be disc ready (hubs & frame) ours was already converted. It's been great for both touring & offroading (southern softie Chilterns style 😉) couple of things to look out for:-
Dawes branded hubs are quando cup & cone - I have yet to find replacement cups, so check wheels run smooth when off the bike.
Original rims are only about 17mm internal, so anything wider than 2" tyres could be a problem.

We had a Thorn child back which was brilliant.
I've still got a Dawes Double Edge gathering dust in the shed. Would let it go for £300ish. Let me know if you are interested. Located near Basingstoke.

If anything I'd opt for a more modern bike than can at least be converted to disc, we have bb7 brakes with 8" discs

You might as well go straight for something like this Ventana as you will probably end up with something similar in a year or so's time. Ventana
