So, I'm short on my new (to me) bike build by four brake caliper bolts.
I can buy Shimano M6 18mm bolts on eBay for 3 quid a pop plus postage.
Or I can buy generic M6 20mm bolts for 2 quid for a ten-pack.
What do I actually need if I buy non branded bolts? Am I looking for anything special or will any old steel bolt do me?
I recently bought some M6 stainless bolts from eBay, couple of quid for 10 or so iirc.
And if his stainless bolts are ok, less brittle steel ones will be much better.
Just fit Ti ones won’t rust and lighter too
Post mount or IS?
Ti looked cheaper, absurdly!
I had thought stainless might be a no-no.
@Onzadog: rear is IS, front is post. Both are set up with adapters. Or will be once I have bolted them on.
Stainless are more brittle but I don't know of anyone who has suffered a failure because of it. IS will experience greater shear force, post mount is mostly compressive.
There's nothing special as such about "caliper" bolts. They're just metric steel socket caps.
And if his stainless bolts are ok, less brittle steel ones will be much better.
I haven't died yet but will post back if it happens.
Thanks all. Sounds like plain ol' M6 bolts will do me then 🙂
