For those who've gone with the Talas RC2, do you ever really use the travel adjust? Does the fork perform the same in 110mm mode as it does in 160mm mode (ie. could you run it in with 130mm or 110mm permanently if you wanted to? perhaps if you were switching between different frames?)
For those who've gone with Float RC2, do you miss/regret not having travel adjust for climbing? Why'd you go with the Floats over the Talas?
Cheers 🙂
No, in a word.
I've a 2006 36 Talas RC2 with 150mm max. It climbs great when talas'd down, but doesn't 'ride' well unless at full stretch.
But I'm not the guy to speak to about one fork and many frames, as I have one frame and many forks...
thanks br. anyone have experience with the 2010 model? Can it be run as 130mm for extended use, or just for climbing?
I bought the Floats for a DW 5-Spot with the intention of adjusting them down to 150mm with the internal spacer, but tbh it rides so well at 160mm I've never bothered! Worth thinking about though if 160mm proves too much.
I have a 2010 Talas 36 R on my orange 5 and I find that the 130mm is fine for normal riding and thesedays I normally keep them at 130 unless I'm doing a steep/technical downhill.
Can't say the same for 110mm but I don't find I use it very often anyway.
Not sure if RC2 would be different though?
not sure myself... the plan for this fork will probably be to swap between two frames as needed, one running 160mm and the other 130mm, trying to ascertain if this is an OK idea 🙂
Any other thoughts STW?
I bought the 09 RC2's and have to say first off they are a great fork you will not regret getting them. Secondly stick to the servicing intervals and you wont have any problems with stanchion wear. Thirdly the way i looked at it was that if i got the floats i could not have the option to wind them down on the move if i wanted too so went for the RC2.
They are on a Giant regin and have to say are a good fit. If i can remember i have the option i wind them down to climb up hill but then sometimes forget to wind the out for going down. I have aslo found that the bike climbs just as well at 110 as at 160 so just leave the out most of the time.
My theory is if you can afford the RC2's then get them as ide rather have the option of winding them in that not.
psychle, i only have 2 pairs left, just a couple, so be quick if you want them soon 🙂
