Hi 👋 just about to head to the Alps and do some road cycling but was wanting to take my own shoes, pedals and saddle in the carry on cabin bag allowance. Easyjet say no sporting goods in the bag...but I doubt they would check, more the potential for security to take them. Has anyone had any experience of this? Thanks in advance!

P

I've taken shoes and helmet in carry on before. Never tried saddle and pedals though, if they get through security then I think you'd probs be OK?

I took both earlier in the year just fine.

I had to put the helmet in checked or get rid though. They weren't happy to let me take that through.

but was that because you tied it to the outside of your bag? If so you are increasing the size of your bag outside limits so no surprise they asked you to check it in.

Ive had helemt, pedals multi tool inside hand luggage before now.

No. And I was well within my allowance.

Full face?

I've worn an XC lid through before.

EasyJet don’t look in the bag, just airport security?
I’ve just taken a helmet thru security in a bag with no drama.

On Easyjet? I flew from Manchester to Barcelona with it tucked into the front pocket of my Dakine (which I was using as carry-on) and no-one raised an eyebrow.

Why can’t you wear the helmet?

Ive flown several times with a helmet inside my hand luggage. Never an issue. Except that it takes up a lot of space, so I have less room for anything else. (And it wasn’t a full face, which might not have fitted).

I just travelled with some bike kit to Greece including pedals etc in case the bike hire company didn't have SPD SL (turns out they did) everything apart from my helmet was going in hold luggage (multitool, pedals, shoes etc).

However when I got to the airport one of the assistants at check in said any stuff with rechargeable batteries (integrated LiPO/LiIon/LiFPO) are no longer allowed to be in hold luggage, she was flummoxed by my GPS just kept repeating the line "Apple and Samsung are approved" as if that was going to change something, so that ended up getting transferred to my hand luggage to avoid any confusion...

Personally I'd just put pedals and tools in hold luggage as some jobsworth might think they're potentially offensive weapons, helmets are probably better as carry on (if there's no space in the case) and anything leccy now apparently must be in carry on too...

To clarify, I've flown variously with helmets of different sorts in hand luggage and with various carriers. FWIW I've never had the *carrier* refuse me taking anything - it's always been security which is down to the airport and the security folks your happen to get. See the above comments about multitools etc, I've flown with a lad with a leatherman in his bag before now and I've seen safety razors being removed at xray.

Manchester in March this year "you can't take that in as hand luggage, it needs to be checked". Open faced lid.

and tools in hold luggage as some jobsworth might think they’re potentially offensive weapons

Well most of them are potentially, more so than a lot of stuff you can't carry. It's not exactly "jobsworth" to suggest the big pointy piece of metal on your multitool isn't a sensible thing to want to take in the cabin.

Yeah but you can take a lighter and a bottle of 50% single malt, which would make a pretty horrific weapon.

Personally I think anything big, pointy and metallic will get confiscated. I’ve seen climbing gear rejected and even had the single karabiner on my laptop bag quizzed over.
