Hi,
I need to do a 1 way trip from UK to France with a bike. I was planning on borrowing a bike bag from a friend in the UK, using it to carry the bike, and then when I return to the UK 1 month later (I fly France-UK once a month for business)taking the empty bag with me.
Would I need to pay for the bike bag when I fly with it empty?
I've bought my flights, and I've bought them as 2 seperate France to UK bookings, so I can't add bike carrying to each booking without paying twice, or can I? I've never worked out how to add a one way sports allowance on easyjet.

where do you need your bike. if you're in hampshire get in touch with WCA you could borrow mine. Could you try to fit both people clothe in one bag? And then having the other bag as just a luggage bag?

you should not need to pay for the empty bag. Fold it and strap it so that it is smaller and it should go in as normal check-in luggage.
as for adding the sports allowance one way I don't know, call them.
Might I suggest using a cardboard bike box instead? It will protect the bike better than a bag which is the most important point and your mate won't be without his bag for a month either. Then you can simply recycle it locally once you are done. You can also pack lots of stuff around it which saves the bike a bit more.
Unless you can collapse the bike bag to the size of normal check-in luggage (which if it has a frame you might not be able to), you will unfortunately have to pay for it as a bike both ways. Low cost airlines are not well known for their friendly inclination to bend the rules on baggage.
Fill it with fags & make some money!! 🙄
