Hi Guys,
I am wanting to take my bike with me to Spain, this appears to be scandalous, £120 with one airline!
Does anyone know of a cheap airline or any kind of cheaper options than checking in as a bike?
Thanks,
Rich
Usually it is about £35 each way.
I pack it in the bag, take it to the airport with luggage booked and fly?

How much was the ticket? The entire thing is cheap tickets don't always mean cheap luggage.
Yeh, great value tickets @ £160 return for two, but £120 to take the bike.... similar size to a suitcase which is £20.

if you can pack your bike to the size of a suitcase they will take it cheaper.

so your ticket is £40 one way, what do you expect. Baggage goes down the run and is handled automatically for a fixed fee. Oversized gets manually handled, carried separately and costs more, your ticket cost will barely cover the cost of the flight let alone the baggage handling.
The manual handling thing makes sense, thanks.
Suppose it is 'mission try and fit in a suitcase' one day this week!
How far is the flight anyway? total price seems resonable for me? I'd probably pay that for resonable service.
Last one probably cost that if I had to pay for luggage
Last couple of times I've flown with a bike it's been cheapest to fly BA, who will take the bike for free if it's your main item of luggage, and take the rest as hand baggage. They give you two items of hand luggage too (something holdall sized and a laptop bag, which I stuffed with clothes).
Ground handlers charge the airlines for oversize bags, pass those costs onto passengers - £60 each way is the norm these days. The only way to avoid charges is to get a bike that fits within the luggage size constraints. I have a Ritchey Breakaway CX clone that packs small enough - 2 pairs of tyres and I'm away!
