Hi,

Background - I am unfit and 51 years old but for the last month I have consistently managed to get several sessions a week in on my iFlow trainer. I've generally just replayed gpx files and gone as fast as I can. It varies the resistance of the brake and records cadence, heart rate, speed and power.

It's now time to introduce more structure.

I tried out one of the Tacx Coach routines this evening and was really impressed. Just download the file, run it and pedal. The resistance alters automatically and there are instructions as to what cadence to aim for.

This felt good, but what I really want is a complete and varied programme for the next year which I can just download like the Tacx Coach routines.

TrainerRoad looks really good but unfortunately does not export straight to a .TTS file which I could run on my Tacx.

Ant+ and Bluetooth speed sensors seem to be the way to go but I am reluctant to abandon my hard-wired Tacx and laptop as it does all that I need - it is just the programmes that I am lacking.

I could compose the routines myself using the Catalyst utility but I would need guidance as to what they should consist of (maybe from a book etc)

Has anyone else been through this learning curve and, if so, what did you conclude?

Thanks!

Recently got a trainer and being going round in circles as there is so much information about, settled on sweetspot training. Riding intervals of x minutes at an effort that you feel is hard but could maintain then have a lower level of effort for the same time to recover, then repeat for 3 times to begin. My own training is slightly more focused as I have power meters, heart rate and am training for racing but the principles should be same.
For me I wanted to choose one method over winter, but this will just apply to the turbo as I generally ride daily anyway which will give me more variation.
Good luck but remember take advantage of the weather and get out when you can, there will be plenty of time to sit indoors..
