Had a bit of a bump last week out on my Stumpy, dinged my rear wheel (second time now), it now won't really spin as its rubbing the frame at one point in its rotation.
I'm in the middle of my second year of A-levels and last week was the first time I've had on the bike in over a month, I don't have the time with the amount of work I'm doing, which makes the little time I get on the bike so much more enjoyable... And the fact this happened only an hour into the ride, so much more annoying!
So my post really is, what is the cheapest remedy for the issue? Is it getting a new rim and getting it laced to the existing hub, new wheels or having it trued? It's been trued once before but it was never quite right!
Just hope I can get this sorted soon, I don't think I can wait long enough for a student loan to blow on a new set of wheels, as that won't be for about 10 months!
Any advice would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance, Mathew
if its rubbing it is more than likely out of true so may true up but hard to say without seeing how out of true it is
A ding is usually very visible as a bend in the rim at some point
Second hand rear wheel is probably the cheapest fix as i could give you a rim but it will still cost money to post it to you and get it built up and that is assuming all the spokes can be reused. £30 ish possibly more not sure as I build my own wheels.
what size?
Thanks for the quick replies guys, I'll take it to my nearest bike shop so they can have a look and see what they reckon is the best thing to do... It's a 650b wheel reggigasket so plenty of things around for me to look at getting... I think my plan is to get this done as a make do until I can afford a new set of wheels in time for the 'Ard Rock...
Many thanks, Mathew
a cheap new rim is £35ish (a better one £50+) and a rebuild is approx. £50-60 inc. spokes and nips so you won't get it done for much less than £85.
You should be able to pick up a s/hand rear for a bit less than that, as a temporary solution.
