I am shortly to remove and sell my Avid Elixir 3's (just can't get on with the feel) and put on a Shimano Zee front/SLX rear combo
I have 200 front and 180 rear rotors, should I drop to 180 front and 160 rear rotors with the Shimano's?
I'm starting to form the opinion that while you can never have too much power up front, the rear can be too big. Thinking of going 205/160 soon.
I figured with 4 pot on the front I might be able to drop to 180 but perhaps it's better to leave it
Nope,
Stay with the rotors you have got. More power = later braking = faster point to point.
I weigh 70kg and run 203mm rotors front and rear with my Zee brakes. 🙂
Recently gone to 180/180 from 203/180 on my new style XTs - smaller rotor = harder to bend and I haven't noticed less power (although I suppose there will be according to simple physics).
In theory the slightly smaller rotors will hold on to heat a bit better, too which is a good thing IMO since the brakes are impossible to boil, even in the Alps and the hotter they get, the better they work IME...
