Getting some play and the freehub can make a bit of a banging noise when riding as the freehub can move a bit before engaging the splines.

Just didn’t know if anyone knew of any other brand that will fit.

11spd Shimano (and 9/10 with spacer).

Think I can buy one from Superstar.

they're Novatec hubs, but the freehub body is a good price from superstar, so just go with them

Thanks lovewookie, I was trying to save pennies with an equivalent model but it’s not worth it.

It’s not a warranty part? My other one has twice the mileage and is fine. This one is hardly used and gives play.

Anyway I’ll get one on order from Superstar then.

keep an eye on the axle too. I had a novatec axle snap not long after a freehub failure. must've loaded the alloy axle.

Once you know what novatec model the superstar is based on (I'm sure they'll let you know) Novatec are actually very helpfull and swift to respond with any queries

There was a good Novatec pdf guide on replacement freehubs. Worth looking up. Think I have the same hub in Novatec branding. May depends on the axel configuration but for the 12mm axel varieties, I think it may be;

Novatec any type B1 Freehub. PN:325725 freehub (B1 Cassette body) or for sram 326293. B2 freehubs compatible but outer axle seal needs swaped from old freehub as slighly larger size.

Also if it's play in the freehub, its probably just the bearings that are knackered. Theycan be knocked out and replaced easily. They are a standard size too.

One of these Pinnacle branded freehubs might fit as some of them are for Novatec hubs?

IME if theres play in the freehub, the bearing gets very knackered very quickly on these. Mine had gone so bad that the innermost bearing disintegrated, leaving the outer race in the freehub with little to purchase to get it out.

However, if the OP does have it apart, worth noting that there are circlips in the freehub, remember to take them out!

Thanks Fellas!

Superstar have given me some links to help me take it apart as it’s been a while before I’ve taken a freehub to bits.

I’ll post some pics once I find a host.

It’s a 4 pawl unit. Novatech but Superstar put in some good bearings from SKF.

Servicing video

I noticed when taking off my cassette that the axel could be undone by hand.
Must have got loose.

Bearings seem ok but why did it get loose? I just hope new pawls or a freehub sort it out once I’ve tightened it up.

I’ll compare it with another identical wheelset I have.

The freehub has 4 pawls and a circular spring clip. I’ll have to get more time on Saturday to take it apart. The pawls seemed ok but one was a touch stiffer.

I heard CRC sell the pawls labelled Prime hubs of it helps others.

I just hope the pawls don't have springs under them as I have no idea where to them from.

My novatec axle end comes loose, just need to put a bit of loctite on the thread to keep it put.
Again, you'd think it wouln't, but it does. The freehub moves a bit and can crunch as the pawls can then shift sideways under load.
