Anyone else find Swinley slippery as heck? All those polished pebbles in the trail I reckon. The bigger berms are ace, but the flatter twisty bits are really hard to take fast without risking the front wheel disappearing without notice.

Sometimes, i think it just takes the first part of a ride to get used to it. I also think it's grippier in different parts.

Blue 1/2/3 for example are very slippery, but then around Red15 etc you've got tonnes of grip.

Always Spin the Green 1st to find the grip levels

Yeah it was mostly the blue that was slippy last night. Red's a lot more grippy for the most part.

I may be there, missed my usual mid week ride this week so could do with a spin.

Will be on a white O-O Fatty looking all bearded and hipster (or like a bedraggled tramp depending how sweaty I am).

7:31 and more depressingly that was 4 years ago at the end of a long ride, barely 9 minutes this year!

We'll be on a red cooker ht and black Norco fluid.
I'll be suitably tramp like and sweaty.

Bugger, only just paid attention to this and can't escape Sat due to DIY demands. Followin Sat is birthday parties for monkey jnr and doubt I'll get away from those either.

Any chance of another meetup in Oct? Or something in Surrey's finest hills?

I'm always up for another swinley as I go at least once a week.
Never ridden Surrey's finest so game for that too.

Mmmm, not looking good for 1pm Sat. I'll probably be at Swinley but either earlier or later.

But I'm there pretty much every weekend so certainly up for future meets

No possibility of me making 1pm. By the time my lads Footy stuff ends and we get home it would be 1pm, then add in the time to get to Swinley, i'd be 2pm at best, so i'll not make this one but will do my best for the next time for sure.

Will definitely be there but maybe late, planning day and timing is tight.

Eldest daughter is at thing 'till 12 if it ends on time I should be there but any slight hiccup and I'll be late

I'll just come find you all (or not)

I'm out 🙁 apparently my telekinesis didn't pick up that we're going to re-decorate the bedrooms.

Enjoy the sunshine!

Looking dodgy here too. Pesky kids and their need to be looked after.....
Going tomorrow at 6 if anyone fancies it or next Saturday?

I'm not faster, I was huffing and puffing plenty on the way back to the lookout...
It was nice to meet up with you.

I think a monthly forum ride for us Southern shandies would be a good idea, give people a bit more notice, even if it's just to let them get better excuses lined up 😉

I'm going to suggest Sat 4th Nov for the proposed:

Swinley Southern Shandy Saunter.

Who'd be in?

obviously, there aren't any trails just the other side of the Old Dean estate (where that massive ariel mast is) around Deepcut, but if there were - although there aren't - then i expect they'd be loads better than Swinley.

But there aren't any, so i don't know why I mentioned it, and as a result I can't offer to show you around them if you ever wanted me to next time you're in this area.

Just as a PSA to anyone that does ride that area on the trails that theotherjonv isn't talking about, the police were there on Monday night warning that anyone caught riding there off-road would be prosecuted under the by-law. First time I've ever seen/heard of the civilian police getting involved.

I think this may have been related to the number of motorbikes in that area recently? Just guessing though.

They specifically referred to cycling, the by-law, and army complaints about groups interrupting exercises.

I think they were actually looking for the drugs dead-drop and it just happened to coincide with us being there. But they did sit in their 4x4 for 20min whilst we had a faff and watch us until we were out of sight (on the fire road).
