This may sound like a stupid question but the Manitou swinger 3 way on my Giant Reign seems to be knackered. I want to replace it but can I only get the same one or is it possible to change to a different shock e.g. Fox etc?
I think chain reaction have the Manitou shock on sale for £73 new. Otherwise what are my best options?? It's a 2005 Reign if that helps.
I appologise now for my lack of bike knowledge. I'm trying to learn my way around the bike but my toolbox hasn't made it to the shock until now!

you need to know the shock length [ total eye to eye] and then the shaft/stroke length [ how much it compresses so measure the stanchion bit]
Get a shock that size
I assume there will be a replacement for the Manitou but do not know re your bike
Seems to be knackered or is knackered?

Is it at the correct air pressure?

So long as the shock has the same eye to eye measurement and the same stroke you can fit whatever as long as it physically fits. You may struggle to get a shock with a piggy back reservoir to fit your frame I believe.

TFTuned have a guide on their site on how to measure eye to eye and stroke length. That's all u really need - then choose a shock that has the same dimensions - but also consider the overall size too - some shocks have huge reservoirs that might foul your frame.

Pressures are ok but there's no damping at all. If you go over a bump it almost buckaroos you out of the saddle and keeps bouncing! I'm guessing it's beyong the point of repair. This is with the damping set at the slowest as well.
I'll try and measure to look for a replacement.

I'm guessing you measure the stroke etc with the pressure all released?

you'll also need to get the right mounting kit for shock and frame worth speaking to LBS/tftuned (other providers are available)
