In prep for an alps trip later this year I’ve upgraded my front disc rotor from 180 to 203. I was going to see if the 180 rotor would switch to the back to replace the 160 with the same adaptor off the front (both ends are 160mm post mount as standard so the rear is currently straight on to the frame). It looks like it might work but the mounting bolts that are in there currently are too short as they’re obviously designed to mount without an adaptor. Anyone know which bolts I need to fit the 180 rotor and where I might get them? Is this something an LBS would have knocking about?
Yep, definitely try the lbs.
I ordered some in the past though, based on the estimated length I needed when taking into account the max thread depth they were screwing into.
I'm sure there will be some on eBay listed for the purpose of bike calipers but you still need to know the length you need.
Maths. Add the thickness of the adaptor to the length of the current bolts and buy some that size.
Buy some thing bike specific and pay a premium or go to the local hardware shop/fixings factor and pay less.
2+2=4-1=3 quick maths!
Fair point. It was a bit lazy and I should’ve used some Google fu. I think they’re M6 x 32mm and M6 x 38mm.
But I’ve had another thought which I probably should’ve realised last night. The bolts that were mounting the front are actually a bit long for the 203 adaptor. They come through and out of the back of it a bit. So I might just be able to swap the shorter rear bolts over to the front and then use the original front bolts at the back. Will give it a go tonight!
