I want to swap my 10 sp cassette on one bike for the 12 speed that is on the other bike. Both wheels are DT Swiss so I am thinking it is simply just swap the cassette, freehub, mech, and shifter from one bike to the other??? Anything I am missing, and anything that might catch me out and render both bikes useless when I need one at the weekend?

Cheers

Chain and chainring compatibility?

The front chain ring is a boost shimano on both bikes and cassette that I am transferring over (along with chain) are also Shimano. Hmmmm only thing might be chain length as the bikes are slightly different in length????

Freehub - 10sp will be old style Shimano. 12 speed could (will?) be microspline or XD driver.

ETA apols, you did mention freehub.

Isn't there a Sunrace 12sp cassette that doesn't need a Microspline freehub?

Any reason you can’t just swap the whole wheel?
Chain length could be the only issue that puts a fly in the ointment

Make sure your mech hanger alignment is bang-on - 12 speed is really sensitive to this.

If only I could just swap wheels, it wouod be so much easier. 29/27.5, maybe I could mullet it 🙂

Thanks all, will give it a bash and keep everything crossed

Ah, I didn’t mean chainline (boost or not), I mean does the 12 speed chain play nicely with the teeth on the older chainring, if you’re not swapping the ring/chainset over with everything else? They tend not to.

That’s a very good point and one I hadn’t considered. I suppose I could swap the cranks over as well, considering everything else, that would be the easier part of the task.

On my sons bird Aeros mk1 the derailleur fouled on the chain stay pivot with 12 speed due to the 10T smallest sprocket. Got round it by messing with the b tension but it was always a bit crap.

Are shifters both bar-mount or i-spec?
Might be different i-spec types?
