Is the saddle in the exact same position (when sagged) as with a rigid post where you get no pain?

I find that I need to run them slightly lower to be comfortable, and adjust the preload so that your floating on the saddle rather than it pushing upwards.

That said, I don't get lumbar pain when it's not set up right, so it may help, it it may not.

I get pretty bad back pain if I have my saddle set wrong for longer stints sat down. I'd imagine a suspension post would be in the wrong place a lot of the time. Are any suspension posts actually any good compared to proper rear suspension?

Suspension posts are decent, but not comparable to rear suss. It's different.
Set up right, the post should be in the normal position, just shift when you hit something. Just don't think you can ride it like a FS, you still need to ride it like a hardtail, slightly unweighting your bum when going over rough stuff, the post will stop the bike bucking you about.

Suspension posts are brilliant.
Better for bumpy climbs and soak up rebound on the fat bike.
Always used to get bashed on the back of my helmet by my backpack. Not a thing with Sus posts.

Thanks guys for info . I was wondering if it was the motion of the post that causes the lumbar pain . Another thing to consider is I might have the seat too low so causing me to cramp up when peddling ?
