So drunk, swore, attacked cyclist, threatened to shoot him, rammed a lamp post trying to run him over and asked the police for his name so he could put a hit out on him. Yeah probably doesn't deserve jail.
Previous conviction for drunk driving too. Obviously a grade A weapon.
Exactly the type of person to ignore a driving ban I imagine. Guess they'll wait until he kills someone before not sending him to prison again.

How this only got a suspended sentence is unreal. Did the driver have "dirt" on the judge?
The chap that rammed me and then got out and gave me a few punches only got sent to prison because he had an existing suspended sentence - he would not have had prison time otherwise.
He was released 6 months into a 12month sentence - and was then back inside within a week after giving someone at the pub a good kicking.
I expect that someone on STW is a legal expert and can explain this sentencing, as it does seem 'weak'...

Its as if the legal system is as stretched and under resourced as every other public service.
Surely if he threatened to kill him and then drove a car at him - only being foiled by a lamp post - that’s attempted murder?
Couldn’t be manslaughter as he intended to do it and had time to think about what he was doing after leaving the guy inspecting his bike and going back to the car to then attempt to mow him down.
I wonder if him being old came into somehow.
Yeah but cyclist and car so doesn’t count as a real crime.
