I want to put suspension forks on our tandem.
I would like the following:
Coil/Oil
shortish travel (100mm ish)
chunky build

Can you recommend anything that is effectively a short travel down hill fork??

Does such a thing exist?

Cheers

Andy

Get some cheap 66s and cut down the spring?

Andy- might have just the ticket, except they are air

Got some marz 66sl's you can adjust them down from 170mm all the way to 120mm by playing with the positive and negative air pressures. I ran them at 120mm travel on my hardtail for a bit.

nice and sturdy.

drop me a mail if you want to talk

We've got a Dirt Jump fork on ours.

A bit agricultural but seems strong enough.

You want some dirt jumping forks with extra stiff springs. My mate has DJ3 forks on his tandem, he's very happy. He runs the stock springs and an enormous amount of sag.

We've got Dirt Jumpers as well. We were recommended something with a steel steerer.

We've got Argyle air sprung ones on ours, with 20mm bolt through and love them.

We had Rockshox Toras on our tandem, the cheap ones have steel steerers and stanchions and are bomb proof. Getting springs stiff enough was a challenge "combined weight 23 stone" , so we got an air one and pumped it up to max.

Although if buying again I would pay the extra to get marzocchi DJs with a 20mm axle for the improvement in stiffness and handling for a tandem.

Whatever you get don't use a QR! get a proper nutted front axle.

Ditto most of the above. The difference from 9mm QR to 20mm bolt through is incredible. We went from QR Judy XLC triple clamps to bolt through 'zochhi 66's and the increase steering control is remarkable, even going from double to single crown.
DJ's are a favourite. 66's are awesome but the later ones are a bit too long. Ours are early 66 RC2X's which are coil with air preload, so very tuneable.

We have Air pikes steel steerer and bolt through and u turn,
Went for air spring as its far easier to tune for a Tandem and what a difference they make

Looks like we have enough tandems for a big tandem ride out 🙂

Mines currently got DJ2's on it but its had Judys,Pace RC37,RST Mozos and some dirt jump rigid on it. Looking for some 20mm DJ's now as i'd like the stiffer front end they provide

Another vote for zocchi DJs. Forks for a tandem must have a steel steerer ( windwave will fit one to marzocchi forks for about £40) and a 20 mm axle.

I have run DJ1s in the past and now have a set of Z1 lites with a steel steerer.

Edit - the DJ1s had the hardest spring available and a set of air preload caps from another model of fork to get the right ride height
