You know old bikes that appear to still be original.   Anyone got one?   Pics of tbem?  I love to see them.  Todays spot.  Not totally original but note the flexstem.  Best i have seen was a garyfisher fully rigid that appeared totally as it came

I saw a CAAD 2 Cannondale M300 on the train the other day. Mid 90's maybe. It was in good nick. It had been made up to be a commuter type bike. Had some lovely aluminium mudguards and a sort of Jones-style bar arrangement. Forks weren't original either, it had some nice carbon ones on there.

You know where is good to spot some proper old retro kit? Trail centres! In amongst all the full-sus e-bikes, the carbon Santa Cruz etc are often a few properly nice retro 26er MTBs. Parents riding with kids - there's a good chance the parent will be on some 90's XC special.

A wander through Leeds train station normally throws up a classic or two.

Old stumpjumpers, Giant Cadex’s and old OCLV frames off the top of my head.

Seeing Marins from that era just immediately takes me back and can feel/smell all sensations from that time from pouring over the brochures and being in various bike shops

this is my favourite - an 86/87 specialized hardrock that looked virtually new in Yosemite National Park

Picked this up on retrobike. Never ridden it, and currently in a mates garage. Probably.

The wall's worse now.

Mine. Built in 1990, no expense spared. Raced at the time and still ridden now.

My old Ribble 653. Been a bit of a triggers broom from 86 till early 90's where it's remained like this (except I resprayed it 3 years ago).

One of my daughters friends was out with her dad during lockdown and stopped for a chat. I'm not sure he's even that keen a biker but the Klein was in excellent condition. I saw another old Klein in a family members shed almost twenty years ago. Poor sod fell off a motor bike in Thailand and as a result couldn't remember much about the Klein.

I also have an early 90's Diamond Back Ascent. It's still in regular use as my commuter now, and it's had two resprays, and various 'period' upgrades - XT rear mech, cantis etc as parts wore out. I've more recently hand built some wheels on some XT parallax hubs from the 90's.

I've a 1991 Orange Clockwork on my study wall with some nice bits period XT/XTR, Pace RC30s, Salsa 1" ahead stem etc. but don't know how to upload photos. Some of the parts are original to me that I rode back in the day, some are ebay sourced to build it back up again maybe seven years ago. The Clockwork was my third mountain bike but the first decent one.

Not sure if they strictly count as “survivors”, but do get ridden regularly.

I saw this Nuke Proof out in the trails this morning. The owner said he’d had it for 30 years

I give up. You’ll have to use your imaginations. It was a mid-blue 853 steel nuke proof with z2 bombers and a long stem.

Todays spot.

I bought one of those in 1992. My son still uses it to ride around London. It did have a Flexstem on it, but that's now in my garage and the original colour matched stem is back on. Totally original apart from a Dave Hinde rear wheel.

My regularly used road bike is largely original apart from bars, stem and headset. 1980's Harry Hall in Columbus SL with full Shimano 600 groupset and Mavic Open CD rims. Very comfortable to ride and still fast enough for me.

Does this count? It’s 30 years old and nearly stock (bar the electrification kit).

No mate, I'm in Yorkshire. Picked up the Marin f+f recently for a spring project, it's not on the road yet.

I see one of the blue Trek era Klein attitudes parked up most days near work, so it's going strong as a commuter.  I think it's still on the original quadras.  The lock has rubbed off the paint on one part of the top tube , dread to think what the wall thickness is there.

I often see others , but nothing is springing to mind.  Scott Endorphins , and there's often one for sale locally.  i used to work somewhere where a Bridgestone was often parked up, but that's a few years ago now

I think I sold the bike in the OP to its current owner. It was donated to Bikes for Refugees and we thought it'd be worth a bit to sell on and raise some money.

We get an amazing amount of these survivor bikes donated. Currently there's a 1990s Breezer and a late 90s Rockhopper in there waiting for me to deal with, along with a late 90s Villager carbon fibre hardtail with full XT and Judy forks.

A few years back now (2008/9 sorta time-frame) I used to see a woman using an absolute mint Chrome/polished RTS-1 as a daily ride. RS Mag21's, M321 rims, Smoke and Dart tyres covered in XTR -  the only mod was a wicker basket attached to the bars. I stopped and had a chat with her once just to check it out, and it was completely stock 1993-ish, and like I said, show room-nice.  She knew exactly what it was and was pretty excited to have a chat with some-one as nerdy as she was about it. It was her husband's before, and was maintained as well as you'd expect an F1 mechanic would look after his bike (This was Brackley, the town's full of them)

Imagine this, but with a wicker basket strapped to the bars

My CAAD4 is 21 this year and is still my 'best' road bike. It's just about modern enough to have not been completely outdated (i.e. it has an A-headset).

Barely any of it is original but it's mostly upgraded with contemporary Dura Ace with a carbon FSA crank.  Finishing kit is Ritchey ~2010 when it would probably have been Deda on most bikes of that era and the wheelset is a later shimano one, there's a guy in the cycling club with era appropriate polished dura ace wheels that I'd really like to get my hands on!

It's the bike I suspect I'll still be puling out the shed for weeknight clubruns even when i do get something nicer!

My only MTB is a mid 1990s Kona Kula. Original frame and fork. Cable discs instead of original hydro. Now 1*9.

I knew it! It's the same bike, minus the cool/terrifying Profile bar ends and original Smoke/Dart tyre combo.
