has anyone been round holmbury/gomshall/peaslake in the past couple of days? thinking of heading there tomorrow, but not sure how snowy or icy it is out there
I've just returned from Leith Hill. It was great fun in the snow. It is snowy and icy and sketchy as hell, parts of it were a fight to stop my front wheel from folding under me, but great fun nonetheless. Summer Lightning varies from snow/icy to mostly cleared and ridden. Rideable - but sketchy.
Rode Holmebury & Pitch hills today. Still loads of snow, made the ups very draggy but downs still fun. Berms on BKB were very icy first thing this morning. No mud at all which was good
Cool thanks guys. Think I may get the pads out and brave it mid morning!
Forecasting rain, so it'll probably be muddy and crap again!
Rain for a good few hours tonight, so it it said - on the plus side it will see off the snow, on the minus say hello to our old friend the mud. Hey ho.
poor, the snow was fun!
I rode same area as russjp, and at 8.30 everything was firm and fun, but by 12.30 it was thawing which made any patches of snow incredibly unpredictable. It's now raining in Godalming, so suspect tomorrow will be pretty minging! Quite glad I'm off to the Lakes for a week!!

"FELLTOP CONDITIONS REPORT from Helvellyn at 1330 on Monday 27th December 2010. Fresh snow is lying at all levels and the fells are in full winter condition. The snow depth varies from a few cm at valley levels to up to 70cm in drifts. A strong westerly wind has deposited large amounts of windslab onto north-east through to south-westerly facing slopes and gullies, including the exit ramps from Swirral and Striding Edges. A cornice is also currently developing on the east side of the Helvellyn range so please keep well back from the edge. Although a slight thaw has taken place below 600m, there still remain large patches of sheet ice and compacted snow at all levels - particularly on paths - creating potentially hazardous conditions underfoot, especially where the ice is hidden under the fresh snow. Many tarns and valley lakes may appear frozen but are unsafe to walk on. Full winter clothing, footwear and equipment - including crampons and ice axe - are essential for anyone venturing out onto the fells."
