You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
Afternoon peeps,
I'm moving to Woking soon so will be closer to the Surrey Hills but like all things I've limited knowledge of where the best bits are and my navigation is shocking so a club or ride out's are best.
Are there any good clubs to get involved with that will ultimatly get me out more etc etc etc.
Cheers
Gazza
There are quite a few around here, probably the most knowledgable one being the one that goes from Nirvana cycles on Saturday mornings. Also there are the Muddy Moles, who are a friendly lot from what I've heard.
Nirvana have quite a few rides that start from their shop, some a fast paced XC rides, others take in more of the jumps, drops and steeper descents around the area.
The other people to contact are Freeborn, who focus more on Pitch Hill and Winterfold, than Leith Hill. They ride on Sunday mornings and in the evenings after work.
What kind of riding are you in to?
Hi,
Not on the Surrey Hills but in some good land in your area (well Farnborough) you could try www.tunnelhilltrolls.co.uk for a friendly group who ride sociably on Tuesday evenings, quickly on Thursdays and in a variety of guises over the weekend.
There are occasional rides on the Surrey Hills (often organised by me!).
Hope to see you on the trail.
SC.
Tunnel Hill Trolls are based at Tunnel Hill (obviously), which is just up the Canal from Woking. http://www.tunnelhilltrolls.co.uk/About.html
Berks on Bikes (BOBMBC) in Crowthorne / Swinley. http://www.bobmbc.com/
There's apparently an active facebook group for Swinley riding. (not on FB so can't link to it)
Cycleworks in Guildford do shop rides, and I think Switchback Cycles in Knaphill also used to.
Cycleworks no longer run evening rides, now they are run under the name of Love to Ride. Same thing basically, sort of.
Apart from few excellent cycling clubs, you could also join some sunday warriors on regular group rides. More of a sociable crowd with some Knarr thrown inn for good measure. Looky here. Not a cycling club but you get idea. Most weekends people preffer riding in Surrey Hills sometimes in Swinley/Aston Hill or trips away to Wales etc. You could even hack a lift with riders living near you.
The http://www.diaryofamountainbiker.co.uk/ lot usually have a forum ride in the Surrey Hills or nearby each weekend. Very friendly and quite fit, so you might want to check the intended speed/distance of the ride.
i'm in woking, use the canal to get to pirbright ranges, porridge pot hill, tunnel hill, frith hill etc.... handy for a quick blast..
plus not to far to ride over to swinley forest and you can do most of the way their offroad as well.
the Trolls are a good bunch
As mentioned above the old Cycleworks Tuesday Night Rides are now run under the name Love to Ride.
There's a Google calendar of the rides and locations on the Love to Ride website:

You can also join the Love to Ride Facebook group here:

Another group to look at for Surrey Hills and North Downs riding are the Muddy Moles. They have a great web site here:

Hope this helps. 🙂
Happy riding!

From the Love to Ride website:
We ride mainly singletrack, but also love to ride cross country in the warmer months.
What's the difference? Surely the riding on the Surrey Hills is all XC, unless you're specifically doing jumps or looking for massive drops, it's just XC!
cross country is riding across the entire country, where as singletrack is riding one particular individual track on its own, hence the term "single" (i.e. one) track.
😆
Cross country riding is hammering along bridleways (and footpaths) getting your mileage up whilst doing your best to keep your breakfast down. Occasionally pausing while a Lancastrian pervert photos your arse from multiple angles. Allegedly.
Singletrack involves being out for the same time but spending at least half of it talking to your mates at Peaslake bus shelter.
For best results, a mixture of both is to be encouraged. Except the arse photos. He must not be encouraged.
Cheers everyone, that gives me a lot to go at. I'm quite lucky at the moment as I split my time between Reading right near Swinley and Woking / Surrey Hills so lets go ride...........
Gary
Hi Gary and congratulations; your move has bought you within spitting distance of the best riding in the country (allegedly) 😉
Thanks to the props from t-i-m above (do i know you?). We haven't lost a rider out on the trail yet 😯
domtb aren't a club, just a group of like minded individuals who enjoy getting out to ride. Check out the site for this week's ride report plus a selection of videos (below the picture viewer) which gives you an idea of the kind of stuff we enjoy riding.
You are welcome to come along for a ride if you want. Just bring a helmet and a functioning bike and have a read of the disclaimer 😮
How do you know when you guys are going out? I can't actually see anything from the site, may come along sometime.
It's on their forum: diary of a mountain biker
thanks Sonor, yes as it's not a club we don't have posted rides as such we will just suggest a ride/meeting place a few days before the weekend. But they are pretty much every weekend at 9-30 a.m. on a Sunday.
Location depends on wherever we fancy riding.
