[Closed] Surrey Hills guided rides?

Being based in mid-Kent means the Surrey Hills are probably the best riding in the area and just over an hour's drive away. I need to start riding there in the next few months, however I hate riding where I have no idea where I'm going, ruins the flow having to stop every 5 minutes to check the map. And I know Surrey Hills is particularly bad for this! So, there's a few places that do guided rides in the Surrey hills, some of them very pricey but one that's caught my eye is Marmalade MTB who do a 20 mile guided ride for £30!

Has anyone used them before? Also, how does the area ride in the depths of winter? They have dates in Oct/Nov/Dec/Jan but if it's anything like my local riding on the north downs, it won't be fun in the wet.

Cheers 😀

That's a great option - there's a group ride every other Saturday from Biketart near Canterbury I'll be doing (once they approve my FB group request!) so I'm deffo up for group rides like that, will check them out, ta 🙂

If you turn up at any of the car parks on a weekend at around 9.00 am there will always be someone happy to show you around and join their group.

Yeah the only issue with that is getting out of the old comfort zone, I'm OK with smallish drops but I know there's some big drops/jumps there and I'd have no idea where they are, hence really wanting to be shown some of the decent trails which aren't the well known marked trails (Barry knows best, yoghurt pots etc. etc.)

Re drops and proper steep stuff, I always shout out what's coming up to anyone I'm showing around, more so if they're less enthusiastic/confident about that type of riding.

I'm no biking god but I respect the fact most of us have our limits/comfort zones etc.  The trails are there for all of us to enjoy and I would hate someone to have a bad accident due to me being a dick.

Happy to show you around at some point in the near future.

Have done a guided ride with Marmalade MTB last year it was a great way to know where some of the trails are and linking them up Sean was great at guiding and made the 20 miles feel quite easy the trails we did were summer lightening, barry knows best, yoghurt pots and others you dont need to have good ability for the trails he takes you through just good bit of fitness. Definitely recommended.

Si at MTB Coaching (linked with Pedal & Spoke) has also just started doing some guided group rides with a bit of coaching too (I think £20/person?), both him and P&S do most of their advertising/info through Instagram so check them out if you're on there? (pedalandspoke and mtb_coaching).

The P&S rides are getting quite big with all the good weather, to the point where I think they're looking at splitting into a couple of groups with a less "gnar" option which suits me. My friend goes regularly, but I'm a lot slower/less brave than him so I've been making excuses so far!
