So a mate called round tonight with a wobbling rear wheel. Took the freehub off and pawls are broken. Where's a good place to get them?

Also we couldn't remove the axle. With the freehub off I would have expensive it to drift out taking the bearings with it?

If its the standard ICT wheels, I guess its a salsa hub? (Mine are on my ICT).

unfortunately the freehub is known to be a bit cheese like, and the standard replacement expensive and a wee bit hard to find. However, it is actually a pretty standard freehub - see this thread for details:

https://singletrackmag.com/forum/topic/psa-salsa-fat-conversion-freehub-replacement/

can’t help you with any removing the hub axle (I take i you are not referring to the thru-axle), but do check that the rear wheel is seated properly in teh dropouts. Even with the thru-axle, it is possible to seat it incorrectly leading to wobble.

HTH!

Fab thanks

The issue we seem to have is the hub axle there's a black and silver end cap that the instruction says pulls off but it doesn't

You mean the non-drive side end cap? Strange that that is stuck - I did what the pdf told me and covered in some gaffer tape and pulled it of with pliers. Definitely needed a bit of persuasion, but it did eventuially come off. (Was easiest with one ‘nose’ of the pliers inside the axle hole, one outside, and gripping/pulling straight out, rather than trying to grip the pliers flat around the outside of the end cap - hope that makes sense!)

As above, I’d maybe start with a new freehub body, make sure its all together properly, then re-install the wheel ensuring its in the dropouts correctly. I’m nervous myself about going to far down a rabbit hole of taking things apart if I don’t need to.

Getting the end cap off will indeed allow you to at least check the bearings. FWIW, although i’ve Been through 3 freehub bodies, the bearings have been fine.

Here’s the pdf of the hub just in case you don’t have it (though it sounds like you do). Let us know how you get on!

Hub bearings gone as its got loads of play. Don't think its helped by having max fill bearings either
