Had the same thing, 6 weeks district nurse, and then another 3 weeks visiting surgery every day, for a clean and repack, painful and it weeps.

Biggest risk is an infection ,dont google MRSA,

Best wishes, its a pain in the arse, but takes time to recover, they cant stitch it and cant allow it to heal up with out packing, heals from inside out.

I had the same thing shortly after Xmas, was off the bike until mid-february. No point in risking infection until it's fully healed over. It seemed to take an age to heal from the inside-out, but started to close up quite quickly after 3-4 weeks. Re-infection is your biggest worry.

Flesh wound should be quicker than 6 weeks

Mine was a hole which had to be packed regularly by a nurse. I've had it twice, it does not heal quickly.
