I always thought the Made in UK stuff needed new branding as the old Superstar "buy in bulk from China and sell cheap" business model cheapened the product significantly.  I have bought a good few things from them but mainly brake pads and tools.  Nothing with a logo on show.  Call me a snob but that's me.

A shame for me the site is down, for whatever reason, as I was just about to buy a couple of sets of hub bearings in the 75% off SKF sale but had been waiting to strip the hubs down to check numbers.  Snooze you lose.

If this is the end then RIP Super* and best of luck to Neil for the future.

If they’re getting out of the bike industry then I wish them well in the future. Nearly everything I’ve had from them has been decent (apart from a bunch of dodgy brake pads one year).

If they’re still
Making biking stuff then I’ll continue to buy from them.

I think it’s a bit harsh to slag a company off because they started out rebranding Chinese catalogue stuff when you consider how many companies started off doing that before going on to do their own stuff. There have been a lot of bike companies over the years who’s new bike has looked very familiar to the one in the Astro or Genio catalogue, but have gone on to do their own thing later.

And they have always been pretty upfront about what was and wasn’t UK made.

There’s enough doom and gloom in the bike industry (and world) without jumping to conclusions about which companies are going under and which aren’t. Maybe we should all wait for the facts before gloating (as it seems a few are doing on here), these are people’s livelihoods were gossiping about.

Neil is guilty of that, now he’s stopped

Well it’s been interesting watching the comments, life’s been a bit busy lately. Baby 3 came along and life’s got very complicated for many reasons. My priorities are with family.

server died unexpectedly, I thought it was part of the McD etc server implosion but it wasn’t. Was going to fix it but decided it makes more sense to spend the time finalising the new webshop and Fullfillment move which was almost done. Hopefully will sort it soon

ill be honest, I took the weekend off with the fam rather than rushing. I did want to wait and see what people would say. Thankyou to the well wishers and to the usual trolls literally making stuff up go get bent you miserable poisonous **** Xxx

I’m not surprised to see the usual people literally rewriting history completely wrong, several comments above they could be sued for being that legally factually incorrect, but I have better things to do. I don’t mind people discussing and even speculating, but I know who some of the people in the industry who don’t have the guts to tell you who they are publicly while making stuff up. I’ll stand by my personal opinions, but proper lame to have yet an anonymous dig above (as I know well from my youth).

on CRC, I made it clear they were my personal views and predictions of what would happen. Lo and behold I was 99.3% right back at the start…. Can’t beat reality.

life’s got complicated, the world has gone tits up with wars and economic chaos, I’ve been let down and been shafted by too many people lately. I’m rationalising my life and focusing on the things which matter.

Congratulations on baby #3 Neil!

And yeah, get all the systems in place, then push "launch" at a time that's right for you and the business.

Direct apologies for over-stepping the mark with my own speculation here & all the best, however things work out.

As I said earlier I think what you have achieved with SS is hugely impressive. Lots of business getting shafted right now it seems and it just goes down the chain, the smaller guys always get hit the hardest.

Maybe put a post up on social media - there's a Reddit thread with a customer complaining about not receiving an order / no communication and a 2 min post would save a lot of future aggro, but im not suggesting anything you don't already know.

As it should do Neil. We have some stuff going on that focuses the mind on the important stuff and as long as my family pull through the rest is just chaff. Good health to you and yours.

Missed your chance there Neil.

Should of blagged-em with a big new thing about to be unveiled. Hint at a space/aeronautical/F1 (not Boeing) tie in. UK made TI frames in 8 sizes, cheaper than Alu catalogue frames. Innovative market disruption and all that. 90's brand revival. Yorkshire men with flat caps and hammers. Angel investors Cliff Richard, Leo Sayer but not Garry.

Old journos trick the wild speculation to provoke a response!

No issues with superstar stuff from me. Brake pads never fell apart and customer service always grand

my only grumble is they never seem to have narrow wide chainrings to fit shimano 4 bolt cranks in stock! Surely someone would make a killing if they could supply these, they are like hen’s teeth

A bit OT - but lots of 28T Shimano rings out there, no need to wait years for one, unless you particularly like the SS ones of course (from trying a lot of different rings I feel they are all too similar to care in honesty)

Lots of everything out there right now really, which is obviously one of the issues with the industry and business involved, not sure I would have the motivation to expand a range of products like chainrings right now if I was a on-man shop.

@mrbadger - if its an old type of crank shimano don't make anymore I imagine sales numbers wont be high enough to bother making a batch, far from making a killing I imagine you would struggle to turn a meaningful profit on them at all.

I do particularly like the SS ones, but if you can suggest any alternative DM rings at a reasonable price I'm all ears 🙂

Had a Burgtec one last year and found it wore out quicker than I'd have liked.

Was going to say Burgtec - but a quick google shows lots of options - Works Components, Pilo, NSB, Garburak, Alugear,

Maybe the Burgtec wore quicker because of conditions? - All the good ones are made from the same stuff.

Thanks, I might stretch to £40 for a Works one (and I trust them to make a good one).

But I prefer to pay £25 when SS are doing a promo code.

Dunno, I've had Uberbike ones wear out even quicker in the past but I expected Burgtec to be better.

I would guess my Superstar rings have lasted twice as long.

Think Neil posted on here a while ago about those cheap eBay rings being a softer alloy. Perhaps not all "premium" brands are equal either?

"But I prefer to pay £25 when SS are doing a promo code"

I think that statement might go some way to explain this entire thread and the future viability of Superstar (and any other domestic manufacturer for that matter)

All the UK / European guys list 7075 aluminium, no reason not to trust them, maybe their design was shite and SS are better at dealing with wear.

It'll wear out quickly because it's 28T.  More pressure per active tooth and less teeth per rotation. At least 10% vs a 32. Manage your own expectations

Very pleased to hear things from SS components will be carrying on...but then just the FB feed was enough to always show that this was just some downtime and things were in planning, server issues etc, so surprising that so many of the comments on this thread were even made.

SS has always given me a lot of products at good or bargain prices and never been an issue, so only wish them success.

Get off your high horse mate. It's a chainring, not a cassette or something with moving parts.

And remember, they're still in business, this thread was a false alarm.

I've bought from SSC for years and not had any issues. Same with Planet X/On-one. Maybe I've been lucky. IMO, long may British companies keep making decent cycling components at competitive prices.

Nothing libellous has been said.  .  Its laughable to even suggest so.  Fsir comment is a complete defense

Neil fruit  tango and whatever other names he used in his astroturf campaign is the only one rewriting history

I'm still really angry with superstar components. The last thing I ordered didnt have any haribo with them. Not sure I'll ever use them again. 😜

Congratulations Neil on number 3. You must be mad. One was enough for me to put me off having anymore at my age. Sleep is over rated anyway 😊

I don't get all the aggressive hatred for companies trying to make a living. If you don't like them, use somewhere else. I wouldn't be surprised if Neil did leave cycling. I bet he could make more money and get less hassle doing cnc etc in another industry.

Just keep doing what you do. Haters always gonna hate.

I've had a few bits and pieces from them over the years. A wheelset that sounded like a load of angry wasps but worked well. Various chainrings, grips etc. I'd probably have got more if black stuff didnt seem to sell out first,

TJ as usual you try and keep your trolling bland enough to have no substance. You literally bring nothing of value to the conversation.

this time you are factually wrong on multiple accounts but I can’t be bothered to correct every bit of misinformation on the internet. people keep making stuff up and reposting it until it becomes your warped troll truth.

for example the court case I apparently “lost”, firstly he sent me literal death threats and the police were involved. He bought a KS seatpost which was rejected for warranty because he had posted photos of him crashing his car rack into something low and bending it. JRA it bent apparently. When he didn’t like the modest quote for a new lower and service he took me to court where he LOST and had to pay compensation of more than the post was new as the judge clearly didn’t like him…

so literally nothing of the post was accurate, much like the guff you keep referring to in your sad little life mission

seriously you need to get a life, the speed you jump on anything I say shows you either spend all day on the internet or you have google notifications stalking me.

remember you got banned and I never have…. That says a lot. Oh and last time you shut up for a while is after I PMed you to say every time your trolling popped up my sales trebled, so thanks for all the income!

anyway I’ve got much more important things to do with my life
