I put this in my tyres earlier this year and yesterday I had to abandon a ride for the second time because it's ****ing useless. It simply stopped working about an hour into a ride - no punctures - I put some fresh stuff into the tyre and could reinflate the tyre but it wouldn't hold pressure so had to fit an inner. There was about 100ml of this bright blue gloop that I had to scrape out with a tyre lever / wipe with leaves - before fitting a tube - it was everywhere.

I will add, I took the tyre off today, cleaned off the old sealant and reinstalled the tyre - it re-inflated and held pressure with soapy water brushed around the bead and yet 2 little bottles of the stuff wouldn't work.

Yeah, but. It’s superstar isn’t it.

Just like OO. You are allowed to moan about them even if they weren’t involved. It’s an STW thing.

The fact that they don’t do sealant shouldn’t stop anyone moaning about how shit their sealant is  👍

I'm curious now. If he's received a bottle of odd-coloured milky fluid from Superstar, what is it? 🙂

Fruit essence?

I fill my tyres with them Haribo sweets and although a bit bumpy to start with, once they soften I have no problems.

Is the OP a Superstar and using his own fluids as sealant? Otherwise, I’m well confused

"I’m guessing it’s schwalbe doc blue"  but it isn't blue, Its the same colour as Stan's for some reason.

The OP is thinking of Uberbike. That's blue and average.

You can also add the £40 a bottle finishline stuff to the list of I won't be buying that again.

Back to Stan's and happy.

Well I for one will absolutely not be ordering any of that then, if it existed! 👿

Stans does still seem to be the go-to for sealant.

I bought a 5L bottle of Hutchison thinking latex based, cant be any diffferent to Stans but when I popped the tyres off on getting back from holiday 100ml+ had dried up in 3 weeks.

Schwalbe Doc Bue is Stans, same bottle, and says made by Stan's on it. I've tried a few lately but Stan's seems to be the only one that actually works. Nutrak stuff was laughably bad, Orange seal is also crap

Bontrager was the worst I tried, well, actually, I never tried it, as it came out the bottle with the consistency of rubbery toothpaste, I filed it in the bucket, and went back to Stans.

A few mates have tried Peaty stuff too, and reckon it's similarly shite.

Was thinking of trying some in place of Stans.  What didn't you like about it?

Finishline is the worst Ive used , If you eventually get it to work you will have had to use the whole bottle for one tyre. Orangeseal or Stans for me.

While on the subject of sealant. Anybody used Oko sealant before?

Seems like good value as it is on sale at PlanetX

https://www.planetx.co.uk/i/q/WSOKOMMHF/oko-magic-milk-hi-fibre-tyre-sealant

I want to give it a try but I eco the sentiments regarding the only sealant to use is Stan's as I too have been left deflated with sealant that well just doesn't seal.

There was an updated/long-term review with q&a with Finish Line on bikerumour, iirc, and it turned out they'd only really tested it with a couple of tyre/rim combos that they already knew were optimal and that it was very hit or miss as to whether it would work with anything else.

Nutrak and OKO are one and the same.

Just by way of example - newish tyre, got a hole in it on the rtread, all the newly added Nutrak poured out the hole when I tried to reinflate. Gave up, went home, topped up with Nutrak, reinflated, sort of held, then reached 25ish psi, all sprayed out again. Tried a bit more Nutrak, same deal. Put a little Stan's in, sealed instantly, rode it the next day no issues.

Guessing it's the Uberbike MK1 formula, it was indeed rubbish. Cleaned it out of the tyres I had used it in, they knew it was rubbish and changed the formula pretty quickly. They are on the not to be purchased from again list.

Peatys sealant was absolutely useless for me, washed it out with a hose pipe.

Stuck some Orange seal in and has been fine, I really think it also depends on the tyre and wheel combo just as much as the sealant.

Fished the discarded bottle out the bin - it was indeed Uberbike - I've happily used Stans for most of my other bikes, but thought I'd try something cheaper and now regretted it.

Second that.....however it does seem to depend on the tyre. Using in a maxxis HR2 seems to be fine. In my conti trail king.....dries up extremely quickly!

I’ve got most of a bottle of the early Uberbike stuff too.  It probably would actually be fine for riding immediately after setup as it will ‘seal’ but doesn’t have any staying power, the tyre is flat within days. I wouldn’t trust it personally and would need persuading to try any newer version of same.

I suppose everyone saw the recent Planet X offering of Oko?

If I’m reading it right the OPs tyre went down even though it didn’t have a puncture?

IMO any decent tubeless setup should hold air with no sealant in it. We’ve got a shop full of bikes in display with no tubes or sealant in them an nearly all hold pressure just fine without. (We add sealant when the bike is sold)

I’d be looking at your setup..... It’s not sealing properly 😀

All your bikes probably running those nice heavy tubeless compatible oem tires.

The good thing that sealant does is allows you to run nice pliable useful tires that may not actually be otherwise described as tubeless compatible but that ride really well once sealent is added.

Thats my thought PP, a tyre wouldn't suddenly go down without a puncture unless the bead had become unseated from the rim.

Do any decent tyres not come as tubeless compatible now?

you can buy almost all tires as tubeless ready sure.

almost all of them are heavier than their non tubeless counterparts + sealant.

and given your still want sealant in your tubeless ready tires why would you want to run the heavy weights if your not a biffer.

Nutrak by OKO has been sold by Madison for 2 years now. But it's the old version of Magic Milk, not the new tubeless formula Planet X have and certainly not the mountainbike Hi-Fibre version.

The price, I was sold it in a LBS I mean SOLD it as being a the next big thing, fit and forget, last the life time of the tyre, etc.

I won't work with any other wet sealant. so you can't top up.

In use I had to work quite hard to get it to seal holes, and on two occasions ended up fitting tubes. Both holes later sealed with standard Stans.

Set up a tyre with the Hi-Fibre stuff a few weeks ago. Seems to have worked ok on a couple of thorns that I've pulled out, but it failed to seal a 6/7mm hole in the tread tonight. Though to be fair I doubt most sealants would have worked on it. Mended with an anchovy and it held air ok for the rest of the ride.

I use the Cafe Latex (sp?) stuff after having problems with Stans congealing into a rubberised puddle in the tyre. Been really good throughout the Summer.

Disappointed to not see an apology from the OP, maybe even ask mods to update the title?  I’m not a fan of SSC but they don’t deserve to get a kicking for a product they didn’t actually ever supply

How many companies are actually manufacturing tubeless sealant? And how many companies are rebranding the same product as their own?

Got sent a bottle of the new UberBike sealant to try, then at the Cycle Show at the NEC I spotted a few others for sale, same size bottle, same colour, same consistency, one of them actually had on it it was made by OKO, so guessed it was just re branded OKO Magic Milk Hi Fibre? Also been told that OKO make the MucOff sealant and (used to) make Peatys?

Tried quite a few sealants and never been to convinced by them, Joe's Super Sealant (similar to Stans?) is the one I always go back to, always seems to do the job.

I'm currently using Squirts tyre sealant, works well, sealed a small thorn puncture no problem.

I've tried most over the years now.

Basically, in my experience, the only brands that work are Stans (normal & race) and the orange stuff.

Everything else is a waste of time and money. The new MucOff stuff had been getting rave reviews, I found it had turned into some weird, sparkly latex worm inside the tyre within 2 weeks & provided precisely no sealing ability whatsoever.

I've only just changed over to tubeless, am I missing something.

Why is car sealant £7 p/L and cycle £30 p/L?
