Is anyone using one in a tapered frame (ZS44/ZS56) with a straight steerer? Is the bottom bearing just a normal size taper bearing with an adapter race for the fork crown? I want one for my bike but the one I need's out of stock and I'm wondering if I can bodge a straight steerer one to fit tapered forks with some gubbins I have kicking around.
I'm using a -2 degree slackerizer in my Ariel frame with a straight steerer fork. The frame is ZS44/ZS49 and takes a tapered fork usually.
The headset I have is EC44/ZS49. The lower cup uses a bearing and race with fits snug to the fork steerer tube, and the seat for the bearing in the lower cup is sized accordingly.
So unless I've misunderstood you I don't think it'd be possible to bodge for a tapered fork.
I don't know about Superstar but Works have an option that'll work for you, I'm sure.
You can always convert a tapered steerer headset to a straight steerer fork with the right (massive) crown race but it's a case of finding that right part.
What headtube length are you after, I have a slackeriser to fit ZS44 ZS56 for 120 - 130mm headtubes that isn't being used, its for tapered steerers but I think I have a reducer somewhere that could bring it down to straight steerer.
Thanks for your replies. My headtube's 110mm long, but thanks anyway Bigmantrials 🙂
The bits I have are-
tapered frame (ZS44/ZS56), 110mm long
tapered forks
so I need a tapered headset to fit that length headtube but they're currently out of stock. I was wondering if the one that's for straight steerers just uses a boggo tapered size bearing on the bottom and comes with a reducer for the fork crown.
Tomparkin - what size bearing's on the bottom of the one you're using (is the fork crown race a reducer type to fit a tapered bearing onto a straight steerer fork?)
