Looking for a 36 tooth narrow/wide oval ring to match up with some new GRX cranks.

The cranks are 2x* but when I'm racing I'll want to go 1x, just for simplicity in the mud and weight savings. I usually race on a 36 tooth albeit that's using my mountainbike, hopefully on a bike which is 2kg lighter I could maybe get away with 38 tooth.

Superstar offer their raptor rings but talk about having to do a little filing for newer Shimano cranks, suggests to me they're basically not the right fit!

Does anyone use a Superstar/Shimano combo?

Ta

*I bought the 2x chainset as A) It was cheaper than the 1x! and B) I'll be running it 2x for everything but CX racing.

I use Ultegra 6800 cranks and one of their rings.

I needed shorter chain ring bolts and it doesn't look all that tidy because the standard rings are designed to match the shape of the spider in 3d - that's not a functional issue though.

My understanding with the newer models of crank is that all 4 attachment points aren't the same. This is so you correctly align you chainring or if you are more cynical it is so it isn't as easy to buy non shimano chainrings.

There is a video on what to do. You need to file something. Not a great hassle if you have the stuff.

If it does put you off then I think wolftooth components and absoluteblack do ones that should go straight on.

Yeah, if I decide to go 38 tooth I could use Absolute Black or Wolftooth, think Superstar are the only ones that do 36 tooth.

Will go look for the video, was worried it was filing of bolt holes or something!
