Are they durable and grippy? £25 and 340g are good numbers.

Can't comment about how long they'll last as I've only had them on for 2 rides but they are light and plenty grippy for me. I wear some old, battered Vans and haven't noticed any unexpected slips. Only thing to watch out for was that the pins on one of the pedals had started to unscrew after a couple of hours. Easy to tweak up and the other pedal pins were all tight so may be just and oddity.

I got a set when they had them on sale just after Christmas. They're OK but I don't find the grip great. They've been relegated to the parts bin and will probably make an appearance on a pub bike in the future. I'm comparing to SS Nanos, Specialized Bennies & Saints. The pins aren't hollow so don't bike very well, also there's a bit of a bulge where the axle is that doesn't help.

+1. I've forgotten they're plastic.

Another +1 for the Nukeproof Electron Evos. Very similar design to the Superstar ones, but with a couple of extra pins. I bought some recently, cheapest online is ubyk for a fiver more than the SS ones.

Same here, if the SS one's are the same then they'll be surprisingly good...picked up the Nukeproofs in a CRC sale cheap enough that i'd bin them if they were crap but ended up spending all last year on them.

I've moved on to....(no laughing)....Boardman pedals.

....there i said it.

Anyway, i was in Halfords picking up some cheap tubes and getting some BMX tyres and noticed a nice looking set of flats with some fearsome looking pins through them....i was surprised to see they were Boardman, i asked the price hoping they would be expensive so i could walk away but they were only £35....i bought them and they are the best flats i've used....seriously, they're thin with a genuinely subtle concave profile with no horrible axle bulge ruining things like on some 'flats'...the pins are long and easily removable and i havent lost any yet...the build looks great, like they've been CNC machined from solid blocks of aluminium....highly recommended if you can get past the brand snobbery part.

I didn't like the electrons myself, the axle stands too proud and takes a lot of weight off the pins. OK with some shoes, pretty terible with others. Much prefer the metal nanos.

Another set of well used Electrons here - and I suspect that my usage actually results in them getting bashed a lot more than they are on bikes. Would happily buy another pair (of the same, the upgraded version, or whatever the cheapest rebadge is).

Bought some of the Superstar ones to replace the stock shin-shredders that came on my girlfriend's Cube hardtail. She loves them, but then again she doesn't ride any ultra-gnarrrrr downhill.

I've ridden her bike a couple of times and I can't see what the complaint is regarding the raised axle area though. They felt fine to me wearing a pair or regular Vans skate shoes.

I have a couple of pairs of plastic Superstar pedals. They are as grippy as their alloy ones and feel equally good under your foot.

I only have them on the commuter and cargo bike though so they wont get abused very much to comment on durability.

I'm also a fan of electrons. Got a pair on the HT and the FS.

Northwind: I think the 2015 Nukeproof addressed that problem with the Evo version. Not sure if the SS pedals are based on new or old Electrons.

I've got both the metal superstars and the plastic ones. The plastic ones are newer and are currently sat in the garden.

The central spindle stands slightly proud so that your foot isn't 'in' the pedal and as such your foot isn't gripping as good as the older metal pedals.

I've been using the Superstars for ages now. Find them fine. Not quite as grippy as the nanos they replaced but yeah, really good.

Nice & light but very slippery compared to the nanos & the centre bit over the spindle is higher than the rest of the platform so your foot rests there rather than on the pins, I went back to metal nanos

Nukeproof electron evo looks to be the one then, still down at 350g too. Cheers!

+1 for Electrons, after a few rides you might forget they're plastic (as above) but now I think about it more, if MTB flats were designed today, they'd be made from whatever plastic they use - it's the best material for the job IMHO - it's lighter, cheaper and more crash resistant then Alu. I've never noticed any flex and they last just as well as Alu ones - the internals are all steel and use the same design as hardware as a dozen other designs.
