Superstar oval chainring - noisy?

I fitted a Superstar narrow/wide 36t oval chainring (1x) to my gravel bike; GRX with Easton EA90 crankset.

Basically it's quite noisy; a clickity clicking noise. Seems to work fine, no chain drop etc, but compared to say my MTB (Absolute Black oval) it certainly makes more noise. I tend to regard noise like this in a mechanical device an indication something isn't right.

Anyone use one could offer thoughts?

It will probably bed in over a few miles and become less noisy.

My microshift, SRAM and Shimano mix has quietened down over 50 miles.

I've had it on a for a couple of hundred miles at least...

The noise is pretty consistent no matter where on the cassette the chain is; I was wondering if I'd got the wrong offset (3mm) Bike is Nukeproof Digger 23 model but that implies not (?)

If it was offset it would be quieter at one extreme of the cassette than the other.

Never had any issues with the Superstar rings until they were worn, and then chain wear was accelerated. Probably happen with any other brand though

Did you replace the chain? It's probably worn and not engaging the new chairing properly.

The chain was virtually new; it was a new bike with a couple of rides on it and I wanted a lower gearing. It could be, but I'd be surprised.

It does sound like that sort of thing though - I might get a new chain and try it. If it makes no difference the new chain can get taken off and kept for when it's needed.

Thanks for the suggestion - worth a try and no loss, eh?

I had that with a superstar oval chainring. It quietened a bit but was always noisier than sram x-sync. I also found it was one of the only chainrings I’ve had that drops a chain when it’s muddy. X sync never does that until it’s utterly worn out.

If they are just noisy I can live with it - just worried it indicates something wrong setup wise.

This is a bit annoying… I’ve got a Superstar ring that I’m about to put on my gravel bike 😞

Despite what I said about being able to live with it, when asked by Mrs HP what I want for my birthday, pointed her at https://slam69.co.uk/products/absolute-black-mtb-oval-raceface-cinch-direct-mount-boost-148-3mm-offset-36t?_pos=7&_sid=4cad10af2&_ss=r&variant=32423564017741

Thanks for the feedback though; I'd say the Superstar ones are fine as long as you're less OCD about bike setup than me 😀

Hmm, you can add me to the list of people that didn't have a problem

I was running single speed with a 9 speed chain though
