Hi all

Anyone got any experience of superstar component hubs? I’m looking at some of their prebuilt wheels and the above hubs are options. i don't have any experience of the brand, although know they’ve got a reputation for good value.

Ive only had one set of superstar wheels and they were tesla hubs. They were truly awful , the cassette kept falling off the freehub and the pawls fell out frequently. This was about 3 years ago to be fair but id not buy another pair after having hopes and 3 pair of DT Swiss.

I have a set of V6s. They are quite heavy but seem well made and the ratchet is suitably clicky. Their customer service is pretty poor/rude and they took an age to arrive. I like the idea of well priced UK made stuff, but I'd be hesitent to use them again based on attitude. I have some Bitex hubs as well which are lighter, similar price and come from a company who is nicer to deal with.

I've got Superstar hubs on two sets of wheels. I'd recommend them.

One set of road wheels that weigh less than 1500 grams and cost less that £250. The weight is accurate as I weighed them when they arrived.

One set of mountain bike wheels. They've been good for 4 years. They were secondhand and I've just replaced bearings and the rear axle. Getting parts is easy and quick and while the emails from Superstar take a couple of days and are short of words and nice sentiments they cut to the chase and you do get the help you need.

I'd say they are very good for the price. NO frills, no niceties but they do the job, are easy to fix and they're UK made.

I will buy again :o)

My V6 hubs have been a bit of a pain, the original end caps were too loose and dropped out every time you took the front wheel out. They sent out free replacements that had been re-designed to be slightly larger, but they squeaked terribly, then once the rubber o-ring wore down, they now drop out too. The freehub (Shimano type) dropped off my rear wheel when it was in the back of the car (just a push fit onto the hub shell), losing some of the pawls/springs. I've never had the freehub drop off another wheel like that..
These were pre-built boost hubs onto Stans Flow rims. The build was nice and true and I haven't had any problems while riding, they've been used fairly hard on a hardtail and have no dings/are still nice and round. Bearings have lasted well. Just the above annoyances when removing/carrying the wheels in the boot. Got to have an eagle eye for end caps disappearing in car parks at the end of rides.

My V6s have been great. 2 winters worth of CX races and plenty of gravel thrashing and they are still completely straight and smooth running. Recommended.

I like my v6es. Bought as a cheap sale full build that was too hard to resist. Seem well made, freehub sounds cool. Not ridden them loads, but have had no issues.

I'm pleased with my V6 hubs, sound nice and make for a light wheelset with flow hubs. I paid less than £300 in a sale which I think is great value for the quality.

My V6 wheels are ok. Both front and rear have remained true through 18 months of intermittent use.
I have an issue with the rear hub at the moment and superstar are happy to warranty it. I've just not got round to sending the wheel back to get it fixed.
I would still consider buying their wheels again.

Had a rear v3 hub, used for the last 4 months, flange at the drive side cracked for no discernible reason, really bad as well, hairline crack running around the entire hub on the drive side. Wouldn't be in a rush to get one again.

Hello to the people who said they had a problem but never contacted us... try contacting us and we will help!

Different between the two models is V6 has hugely expensive SKF bearings and double the engagement speed. Everything else the same.

Biggest problem we have currently is being able to make them fast enough... we keep emails to the point as we are flat out answering everyone, I don’t really understand why this is a problem? I don’t understand how paragraphs of apologies, hand holding and flowery language unrelated to sorting your problem really helps sort your problem, but hey.

Anyway I’m not really involved in the bike side of things, as I’m still flat out making medical parts and i suspect it will be getting busier in the next few months.
