I'm running an X01 Eagle mech which had been running fine for 18 months but then the chain started to drop and twist sometimes resulting in a twisted link or the speed link coming undone (chain ring and chain all good and swapped over regularly). The jockey wheels were worn and had lots of play so I bought some of the Superstar jockey wheels and fitted them last week.
First question, are they supposed to be directional ? There are no marks on them and they look symmetrical all round but first ride out I had a load of noise from the smaller top wheel and could see it wasn't meshing with the chain, turned it round and the noise and meshing issue has went (Same thing happened on a second bike I've fitted these to but I've only tested that on the road so far).
Second question, do the Superstar cover plates need drilling out ? I read this on the Superstar reviews for the wheels. The spindle on the mech guard itself for the top wheel doesn't quite sit all the way home as it does in the Sram jockey wheel but there's no play in the wheel and the top and bottom wheel appear to be in line.
The reason I ask all this is that the shifting is still crap and I am getting some skipping up and down the cassette in the bottom third. It maybe that I've also hit or bent the mech and I will do a cable swap and full set up again to rule this out, but before I do all that I just wanted to see if anyone else has used the Superstar jockey wheels, had the same issues, can answer the questions or point to something another obvious cause because I've changed the wheels.
Thanks
Not sure if this helps but there was a similar thread a few weeks back.
I've never linked to a thread before so here goes...
I have been using Superstar jockeys for the last 8 months without any issues, the SRAM ones jammed the chain a couple of times and i took a tooth off one.
I tried 3rd party jockey wheels in my mech years ago and didnt notice that out of the 4 washers to cover the bearings, one of them was slightly larger to match a slightly larger bit for the top jockey wheel, once I noticed and matched em up the issues I had went away
Checked your hanger for alignment? The sram ones have silly amounts of play, so the hanger alignment cant be miles out and everything still works, the superstar ones dont have nearly as much play, so the tolerance is less.

where does the cover with the larger lip go then? theres 3 covers with no lip and 1 with a obvious lip, i thought this came off the lower jockey not the upper? if im wrong can you advise which side of the upper it goes?
